Chase was perfectly at ease on the grounds. He didn't want to be cooped up in the room for any length of time and there wasn't anyone in there anyways so Chase went out to the garden. Where he was currently laying in the middle of the flowers. Chase loved the smell of flowers so he loved being here because it was just asdfghjkl amazing. It was better than practically anything he had ever smelled and the garden was just full of beautiful flowers. He just wished he could have worn an outfit that was a little more springy because he was actually getting pretty warm in his long sleeve shirt right now because it was getting warmer and he was used to the cold winter.

He had his headphones in and he was drumming to a fall out boy song against his legs. They were just awesome and amazing and Chase loved them. He knew almost all their songs on the drums. That's how awesome they were.

One place that Brent hadn't really explored yet was the gardens. He wasn't that interested in nature, he burnt a lot if it anyway but he guessed that it would be good to have a wander around to pass the time and procrastinate. Those two things just went hand in hand with each other, which was cool. Besides, he wasn't doing anything wrong this time. He just wasn't in the mood for working. Well, he never was but... that wasn't the point.

Once he'd turned the corner, he stumbled across one of the students who was lying in the middle of a load of flowers. Brent raised a brow and looked down at him skeptically. That was kind of odd.

So. The big scary man had scared the shit out of Chase. He didn't expect anyone to see him here for one... for two. He was just... standing there. He didn't say a word. Nothing. He was just standing there. That was scary and creepy. Chase jumped a bit and then pulled out his headphones. He opened his mouth once but couldn't get it to say anything so he closed it and felt the guys emotions. He didn't seem... that harmless. At least Chase didn't think he did.

Chase tried to speak again. This time something actually coming out of his mouth. "I was just uh... listening to music a-and laying here. S-sorry." Okay. So he almost got it all out without stuttering, and really, that was something that Chase should earn an award for. It was remarkable with him.

Oops, it seemed that Brent had scared the lad. He didn't think he was seriously that intimidating though; not when he was in a relatively calm mood. It was a different story otherwise. Brent was tempted by the idea of pretending that he was really pissed off with whoever this was but... really, this kid looked to sensitive for him to do that. He wasn't that cruel.

"Well, I can see that." Brent rolled his eyes and then tilted his head to the side slightly in curiosity. "What music? If you don't mind me asking." Trust Brent to get sidetracked by that.

Duh, Chase. It was kind of obvious to see what he was doing. Why did Chase even bother to tell him what he was doing when he could just see. because he was stupid, that's why. He suppressed a sigh and went to stutter again before catching himself. Slow thoughts, Chase.

"Uhm. It was just... Fall Out Boy." Chase muttered out in a quiet voice. What if he hadn't even heard of Fall Out Boy before... then Chase was going to look like someone with bad taste in music. Okay. Why did Chase care about what this professor thought about his music taste? That... was a good question. But a question for another time. Right now, Chase was monitoring the guy's emotions closely... making sure he wasn't turning mad or anything. It seemed like Chase was safe.

Hallelujah! There was hope for the students at this school if just one of them loved Fall Out Boy. Brent had always been a massive fan of them and their music. "Thank god, someone else with good taste in music." he half-smiled. Brent had got into many, many arguments involving music over the years, it was one of the things he was kind of touchy over. If someone dared insult a band he liked then it was safe to say that they were going to get pretty badly burnt.

Chase let out a breath he didn't even know he was holding when he saw the man smile and then say he had good taste in music. That was awesome. He not only knew who Fall Out Boy was... but he liked them too. Chase had a feeling he would fit in well with his dorm mates. He gave a timid smile back to the man before realizing he wasn't even sure what his name was... Chase only knew he was a professor.

"Erm... I'm Chase. Chase Jackson. I know you're a professor... but I don't actually take your class. So I don't know your name." Chase admitting in a small voice, sitting up and crossing his legs Indian style while talking to the man.

Brent almost snorted. Chase was lucky to not be taking his class, business studies was hardly the most interesting of subjects that Northvale had to offer. Not that he'd admit that because it was his class in the first place. "Brent McKinney." he nodded at the student, "You must be one of the lucky ones then." That wasn't quite insulting his class or his teaching, was it? It was aimed at the actual class anyway. As if Brent would openly insult himself. That would just be silly.

Chase laughed when Brent told him he was one of the lucky ones. He actually laughed. Wow. This was a day to mark in the history books because Chase didn't laugh for his best friends sometimes, and he definitely didn't laugh for teachers. He felt oddly... comfortable with the professor.

Chase started picking at one of the rips in his jeans. He wasn't sure he was a lucky one though. If it meant getting taught by that teacher... he wouldn't mind starring at him all hour. "So music... You like it a lot then? If you like Fall Out Boy, then you must. Play anything?" Chase knew that there were a lot of people in the school that played an instrument or did something musical. So far he had only met one teacher though... and that was Alex's dad so that didn't matter.

Brent sort of found Chase's laugh... endearing. Not adorable in any way, shape or form because that was entirely inappropriate. Simply endearing. Which was maybe why he still hadn't left the young man alone yet, he couldn't quite bring himself to go since he'd actually managed to strike up a pretty non-awkward and interesting conversation for once. With Brent, that didn't happen very often.

Smiling slightly, Brent nodded in conformation. "I'm half siren, so I guess music comes naturally to me. I play quite a few instruments but I mainly stick to the piano these days and sing or something." he shrugged his shoulders, trying to hide a prideful smirk. "What about you?"
