He was half siren?! That was kind of majorly awesome. "Does that mean when you touch water, you get all taily?" Chase teased the man with a friendly smile. He always wanted to see a siren turn to a mermaid. That would kind of be awesome in so many ways. Chase also knew why he thought Brent was cute now. All sirens were cute.

"Uh. Yeah. I've played drums since I was little. My mom got me my first drum set." Chase told Brent before looking down at his hands in his lap. He started to pick at his fingernails. He did that when he was forcing himself not to think about his past.

Brent wrinkled his nose as he imagined having to actually make contact with water and be all siren-ish and there was no way he'd ever purposely do that. Not to say that it hadn't happened before but... never again. "Yup, I would, if I liked water. But I prefer fire 'cause the other half of me's fire faerie." Brent kind of liked his the genes he'd inherited from his father more, although that could just be the pyromania thinking that.

Now, Brent was kind of jealous, because he'd never been able to get the hang of the drums. Chase wasn't allowed to know that, obviously. If he'd been playing since he was little, then he'd have to be good at it. "That's awesome." he replied, looking vaguely impressed. He sensed that something might be up from how the student had suddenly looked down at his lap. That shouldn't concern Brent at all, but it sort of maybe did.

He was half fire fae too? That was actually pretty damn awesome. "I'm a soul fae." Chase told him, thinking that since he told Chase what he was, that Chase should tell Brent what he was. He gave him a smile before blurting out before he could stop himself in a ramble type thing. "So does that mean you have to take baths instead of showers because you'd turn into a mermaid thingy?" Chase asked before he could even stop himself.

"Thanks. I love the drums. I drum when I'm bored, nervous, scared, sad, mad, anything, really. It just... helps me." A lot more than you could even imagine. Chase thought to himself as he looked up and met the professors eyes.

Soul faerie's had always seemed pretty interesting to Brent. He didn't think he met very many before. Fire was still better though. Definitely. Fire could not be beaten by anything. "Then I think you're one of the first soul fae's I've met." Or remember meeting. he added in his head, knowing that his memory wasn't the best when it came to 'people' stuff.

Brent blinked, startled a bit by Chase's question. "Um, yes. Showering with a tail would be kinda problematic." he chuckled lightly. Why was he even telling a student about this in the first place? It was probably one of those personal things that shouldn't be shared with pupils but, really, Brent didn't care because he had a tail which totally made all the difference.

"I can understand that. Music always helps me with stuff like that too." Alcohol also helped. And fire. It would be best to keep that confidential though.

Chase knew there wasn't many soul faes out there... at least, he had only met one, so they couldn't be that popular. He didn't see what the big deal about being a soul fae was. It was kind of pointless to him. He couldn't even fully change people's emotions... and he couldn't stop his father from killing his mother, so he was a pointless fae. But Chase wasn't going to tell Brent that.

So... it might be slightly bad that Chase was now thinking of ways to see Brent in a tail because that was totally not appropriate for a student to want to see their professors tail. Was it? Chase... actually didn't know about that one. Chase shook his head slightly and got rid of those thoughts before giving Brent a genuine smile. "It's always nice to meet someone that understands a passion for music."

That was true. Some people just didn't get what the big deal about music and Brent then would either storm off in a mood because they clearly weren't worth his time or yak their ear off with counterarguments to support his side of the matter, depending on how he was feeling about it. "Yeah. I can get pretty defensive over music when I'm talking to other, stupid people." he smirked. Let's face it, those people were complete idiots if they didn't properly appreciate music or something of a similar nature. Brent was allowed to get pissed off with them.

Chase understood what that was like... to a degree. His dad never liked him playing the drums. He didn't know how many times he was beat because he was playing his drums and his father didn't like music. It was a wonder he still played the drums because of how many scars had come from it.

"I'm lucky that all my friends love music. Most of them play something themselves, so it's nice. We all have the same taste in music as well, so that's nice too." Chase was lucky and he knew he was. He also thought it was pretty lucky he ran into Brent.

Brent thought that Chase was lucky to have friends, full stop. Because some people, like himself for example, didn't actually seem to have any. Unless you counted his dog or piano. But that would probably be a very sad thing to do if you did, in all honesty. Brent's jealousy returned, worse than it had been before and making his somehwhat happy look falter slightly. "Mm, that is lucky." the hybrid agreed, a hint of bitterness in his tone that he couldn't only hope would go unnoticed, or ignored at the very least.

Sometimes Chase really hated being a soul faery for the reason that he could feel when someone's emotions changed. He just didn't know if he should mention it or let it go... If Brent was one of his friends, chances were he would have tried to replace the emotion with something else, but he wasn't... so he didn't.

"Uhm. Remember how I just told you I was a soul faery... that means I can feel what you're feeling and I'm not going to ask why you're feeling that, but I think you should know that I can feel it."

So, Brent had pretty much forgotten that he was in the presence of a soul fae, well, he'd been focusing on other stuff at the moment. That was understandable. He couldn't help but feel embarrassed now. Maybe this was one of the reasons why he was never that close to any soul faerie in the past. Because they were capable of knowing things that they really shouldn't and make Brent want to curl up and die. "Oh. Um. R-right." he stammered, blushing a little. Hopefully he hadn't just made everything incredibly awkward.
