Chase would have smiled at the mention of a dog if he wasn't too busy completely hating himself at the moment. He did, however, lift his head to look at Brent again. Dogs were awesome. Chase preferred cats, but he loved any kind of animal, really. Animals never hurt you and they were always there for you. Chase liked that kind of dependence.

"So you like a-animals, then? I love a-animals. They're just a-awesome." Less stuttering. He thought. Maybe not. Either way, it was progress. Sort of not really. Chase took a deep sigh. He really needed to work on social skills.

Oh. Brent was about to potentially ruin the conversation with his differing opinion. Really, he didn't get on with animals at all. He hated most of them. With good reason. They always just seemed to dislike him - some of them even going as far as to attack him. He was going to have to word this carefully so he wouldn't end up sounding like he was insulting animals or something which may offend Chase. He didn't particularly wish to do that. "I only really like dogs? I, uh, don't get on with any other animals." Brent admitted.

Brent only liked dogs? Well... how could you only like one animal? Chase didn't understand that. If he could, he would have like one of every animal so he could play and pet. Animals were kind of like the drums to him. They calmed him down when he was angry and gave him something to smile about even when he didn't have anything. "I love all animals. How can you o-only like dogs?! Cats are adorable. You have to like t-those." Chase told Brent with a look of pure surprise. The stuttering still there even when he tried to stop it.

Brent grimaced and shook his head. God, no. Cats were not adorable, not at all. "They're not. Anyway, it's not my fault, they all seemed to hate me first." Brent decided to point out. That was true in his mind. All the other animals that weren't dogs must've secretly agreed to put Brent at the top of their list of enemies somehow. Because that was totally likely.

Brent frowned and pouted. "They attack me!" he complained indignantly, throwing his arms out to the side. He never even provoked the animals that had attacked him. Well, maybe he had to a couple but it hadn't been anything that bad. He was scarred. Mentally and physically.

All the cats seemed to hate him? That didn't seem right. Cats were like... incapable of hating someone. They were just cute fluffy things that got fat and loved to cuddle. Chase wished he could have a cat. Maybe he would look into getting one. He'd have to run it by the rest of his dorm, though.

Chase had to admit though. The fact that Brent thought the cats were out to get him or something... Funny shit right there. Chase kept looking at Brent with a fond look. Something he didn't know he was doing. "Sure. B-Blame it on the cats." Chase teased slightly, almost recovered from the moment of awkwardness.

Like Brent had expected, Chase was on the side of the cats. And he knew why that was. "They've brainwashed you." Brent sighed pitifully. The bad thing was that he was only half joking around right now. These ideas had all stemmed from a series of reoccurring dreams that Brent had endured for a number of years as a child. They'd started after he was attacked by his aunt's old cat. It had taken stitches to sort out what that little shit had done to him. Brent was neither going to forgive or forget it for that. But... at least it would be dead now. He took some comfort in being certain of that.

They brainwashed him? Who was the one brainwashed? Chase thought it was the one that thought cats had brainwashed him. Animals weren't even capable of brainwashing, duh. Chase actually rolled his eyes at that comment and smiled, his body starting to fully relax again. He knew Brent wouldn't hurt him or anything, but sometimes his body just didn't like him and thought everyone was out to get him. Yup. Totally true.

"You just want to think they're evil and that they brainwashed you, so you think that. They're really adorable creatures that want to cuddle you to death." Chase told him with a smirk, proud of himself that he didn't stutter that time.

"To death?" Brent repeated, putting his hands on his hips as he stared at Chase in exasperation. "Exactly! They'll try and snuggle you then slit your throat because then you won't be prepared for it! Brent swore his voice had somehow evolved into a sort of screech. He was getting a little carried away with this now but he just could not stand cats. Not one bit. He would defy them until his last breath. That was what he had been born to do. No, Brent wasn't mad in the slightest. The mere accusation of it would be ridiculous.

Chase should have thought about his words before he said them because maybe using the word death wasn't the best. Brent already thought the cats were going to kill him. Chase rolled his eyes and gave Brent a smile.

"Whatever you say." Chase told him, deciding it was best to leave it alone while he made a mental note to talk to him roommates about getting a furry friend. He thought it would be amazing if he got to get a cat because then he wouldn't have to be lonely and would have someone to sleep with at night for once. That would actually be a nice change.

Brent had accidentally wound himself up a little with all the cat-talk going on, which was kind of pathetic of him but, this was Brent, and it was exceedingly easy to piss him off. He glanced at Chase and decided that it would probably be time to go because he was feeling sort of twitchy and like he might end up burning something soon if he wasn't careful. "I should get going now." Brent muttered before plodding off towards the forest. Before he got very far, he did glance back and force a small smile, "It was nice meeting you, Chase."
