Chase didn't honestly care about Dan warming up to him... He wasn't someone that needed people to like him because he was perfectly fine with staying under the radar and not being noticed. But he guessed that it was maybe important for Chase and Dan to get along. At least for Brent it was. "It's alright. I haven't seen him around before. Is he a student? How do you know him?"

Brent had thought about making Dan attend Northvale but he knew that it wouldn't work out since he wasn't really a people person and would probably just end up in trouble. "No. I met him when I lived in London a few years ago 'cause I let him stay with me for a while. And then... he left." Brent told Chase, giving him the very short version of how he'd met the boy. He didn't like to think back to then and Dan running away and then being alone. It wasn't nice. But at least he wasn't alone again now.

So they had met before Northvale. That maybe made a little bit more sense to Chase, but he still felt like he was missing some crucial information about the whole situation. "Why'd you let him stay with you in London? And I didn't know you lived in London."

Brent didn't enjoy telling people about his past because most of it made him look bad. Especially the big reason for why he'd even run away to England. 'Oh, I'm here because I've probably killed my parents.' never did go down well. And he didn't like questions because they always needed to be answered. This was Chase though, so he guessed he'd give tell him as much as he could without telling him something he really could've gone without knowing.

"Well, I lived in London from when I was nineteen until coming to work here. Anyway, I let him stay with me 'cause I was a loner and so was he. But he was homeless and I wasn't. So... yeah." That really was all there was to tell about why Dan came to live with him. He hadn't like jumped in front of a bus to save Dan's life or something. "I dunno why he left or why he's here. He didn't know I'd be here but I'm guessing he was just looking for somewhere nicer to live. The part of London we were in wasn't exactly... anything special." That was an understatement.

Chase listened to Brent when he talked. He was pretty sure he would always listen to Brent when he was talking because even just listening to it, his voice, soothed Chase a little bit. Chase stopped playing with Brent's thumb, something didn't feel like it added up. "Why were you living in London by yourself at 19? I feel like that's a young age to be out on your own."

[/b] Chase told him, even though technically Chase had been on his own since about 15 or 16. Chase had a reason. There was no way he was going to live with his abusive, murderer of a father.

God, that was the one question Brent really hadn't been hoping that Chase would ask. He knew he shouldn't lie about it because Chase was likely to be able to tell if he did, so maybe he'd simply avoid the biggest reason since that was the one he didn't want to share with anybody. "I didn't get on with my parents." Brent mumbled, feeling bad about doing as little as mentioning them. They'd raised him to be like this anyway. Technically it was their fault that they'd never gotten along too well.

Brent didn't get on well with his parents? Chase never knew that. Again, he was sure there was a lot of things he didn't know about Brent. He turned his head slightly so he could look at Brent, but didn't take his head off his shoulder. "I didn't know that. Why didn't you get along with your parents?"

[/b] Chase asked him, moving his other hand to rest gently on Brent's stomach, gripping his shirt so it would stay there. Brent had always been a bit secretive about everything, if Chase thought back. He never really talked about himself. Chase never thought about it before.

Of course Chase didn't know that because he always kept things to himself since it wasn't as stressful as having to talk to people about stuff you wanted to forget. He looked down at Chase for a second and then stared straight ahead. "'Cause I was a spoilt little shit that should've been disciplined properly." Brent ended up glaring at the wall so he wouldn't glare at Chase because he wasn't who he was angry with. Brent was angry with his parents, and himself too.

Chase didn't understand why Brent was mad about being spoilt. Normal people liked when they were spoilt. Chase would have taken being spoilt over being beaten, that was for sure. But his emotions... Chase wasn't going to mess with them by telling him that. It wasn't worth it. Instead, Chase decided maybe it was best to stop asking questions for now. "You know. The ceiling never did anything to you."

Brent tried not to feel too relieved when Chase stopped asking questions because the soul fae would be able to tell but that was far more easier said than done. Strictly speaking, Brent's childhood hadn't been bad, he just thought the result of it was the real issue here but Brent'd had enough of talking about that subject for now so didn't bother saying that out loud. "Yeah. 'Cause I have you now, stupid." Brent said what was probably the corniest thing possible and then kissed Chase softly, smiling.
