Brent yelped and nearly lost his balance for the second time in the space of five minutes when Chase jumped on his back. It was kind of difficult to balance without feet, and even then it wasn't always easy. He knew that he should really put a stop to this when he felt Chase's lips against his neck. Brent titled his head back to look up at Chase in what was supposed to be a disapproving manner but just faded away to something more like unease.

He supported some of Chase's weight by holding his thighs with his hands and his inner responsible adult's incessant nagging to put him down got more and more difficult to hear. "It's not as 'cool' as it sounds. I can assure you." Brent muttered. Chase's optimism was adorable and stuff but he couldn't really understand it.

Chase didn't miss the disapproving look on Brent's face or the emotions that were even stronger than the look. Chase knew he was probably pushing it majorly with how close he was being but maybe that was just Chase's plan. Do small things until he had the right opportunity to do something big. Yes. Chase was planning on attacking Brent the minute he could. No, he wasn't sure Brent would like it. Chase didn't care that there was the whole teacher/student barrier between them. To him, that didn't mean anything other than one was a bit, or a lot older. They were faeries. They would live for a long time anyways. "Why don't you like your tail?"

That was a very good question. The answer it received, well, that could've been a whole lot better. "Because it's..." Brent flailed his arms around a bit and made a funny noise, "Yeah." Now, that wasn't going to make any sense to people that weren't masters of McKinney Gibberish. Such as Chase. Really, Brent would be kind of worried if that had been even the vaguest bit meaningful to any person other than himself. He was terrible at explaining things right now, it was just one of those days. Everyone had them, right?

Brent didn't even try to explain why he didn't like his tail. Chase was pretty sure it was because he didn't have a valid reason for why he didn't like it and Chase just had to laugh at that. It was funny! Deciding, however, after that he maybe shouldn't say anything because it would make him embarrassed more, Chase decided to change the subject. "I'm bored. What is there to do in the water?"

Brent shrugged. "Don't ask me." It wasn't like he ever spent enough time in the water to do anything other than swim. And swimming took effort, which meant that Brent didn't do an awful lot of it. He and exercise hated each other. Brent had been bribed into swimming lessons as a child with promised outings, new clothes or toys and games. His parents had known that he would most likely throw a tantrum if they forced him into it without any form of bribery being involved. He'd been a lovely son.

"Wow. You're not a very perky mermaid, you know. I thought mermaids were supposed to be all... nice and things.

[/b] Chase joked with him, not really meaning it as he jumped backward off Brent's back and swam into the water. He turned around under it and landed next to Brent. Chase smiled at him. "I think the water is peaceful. But how does your faery side like the water."[/b] Chase asked him as his head cocked to the side without him knowing it. He had a lot of questions, okay? He needed to know things. Chase prided himself on finding out certain things that other people maybe wouldn't know.

Nope. Nopenopenopenope. Chase had not just gone there, had he? Because... no. You did not go there. Even if you were joking around. "I'm not a mermaid." Brent said slowly, biting down on the inside of his cheek to stop himself from saying anything that could be considered insulting because, seriously, there was a difference between mermaids and sirens. He would know.

When Chase jumped off his back, Brent was half relieved because he'd kind of started losing all feeling in his upper-body. He was feeling kind of touchy from the whole 'mermaid' thing and thought he'd probably end up snapping at Chase if he wasn't careful but, luckily, he'd found himself getting distracted by how the fae was asking all these questions and had his head tilted to the side. His brain was just turning to mush from this, Brent was certain of it. "It doesn't like it. At all." he admitted.

Okay. Chase didn't expect to get that kind of reaction to calling Brent a mermaid. He just figured Brent would have taken it off as a joke. Chase looked at Brent apologetically. He felt the emotions from Brent, he knew Brent didn't like that. "Hey... I'm sorry. I was just joking. I know you're not a mermaid."

[/b] Chase told him as he got closer without meaning to and grabbing Brent's hand.

Chase could have guessed that Brent's fae side didn't like the water. He was a fire fae and they were kind of contradicting elements there. He just wasn't sure how potent the siren power over water was.

Brent felt bad when he saw the apologetic look aimed at him. He was a bit sensitive with tail-related things, especially with the whole mermaid part of that too, as he'd previously proved. Chase couldn't be expected to know that so Brent couldn't exactly blame him. He knew that the student hadn't been serious either but he'd still said it so Brent couldn't help but react the way he had.

He smiled when Chase held his hand. "It's fine, Chase." Brent responded faintly. There, now he could just forget that anything mermaid-ish had been said.

Chase was glad that seemed to calm Brent down a bit. That was one thing he really liked about his powers. Was that he could tell if people's emotions were true or if they were hiding something by the way they acted. Brent really had let it go. The majority of it at least. "Does it make you feel weird I can feel your emotions? If I tried hard enough, I could even possibly say something in your mind. I'm not that strong yet... but if you wanted me to hear something, you could probably get it into my mind easily."
