Dianne really was an incredibly dumb dog, she wouldn't stop walking into things. Brent supposed that could also be down to the fact that her long hair hung right over her eyes but, seriously, that couldn't cause too much of a problem, could it? It was good that Brent wouldn't have her any other way though. Being dumb meant that his dog was, on the whole, quite cooperative, easy to deal with and grow very fond of.
Together, the white komondor and her owner wandered the streets in the dim light of the early evening, guided by the glowing street lights. The only good thing about walking his pet was that it gave Brent the opportunity to just stop, take in his surroundings and relax. It also meant that he ran into a fair few arseholes, which could undo all the calming that might've been going on recently and trigger his pyromania again. But, hey, today it was so far, so good.

The evening was quite nice, really. Dan didn't normally care about the weather, but he felt good today, and he'd decided to appreciate the little, insignificant things as well. Besides, it was nice; a bit on the cold side, maybe, but the sky was sort of pretty. All pinky-reddy-orangey and stuff.
He'd decided to go out for a walk. He'd wanted to make the most of his good mood, so didn't stay holed up in the place he lived all day. Still, he was coming to the end of his little venture now and it had been enjoyable while it had lasted, even though he didn't really know anybody. But then, a moplike creature- it seriously looked just like a mop, but it probably wasn't a mop, because they didn't tend to walk- caught his eye, as it was being paraded down the street by a man in... interesting clothes. In fact, Daniel was pretty sure that he recognised this guy... oh, God. He did. That was Brent, wasn't it?
Really, really inconspicuously, Daniel tried to hide behind a lampost. Which sort of didn't work, but it had been worth a try, anyway. Brent and The Mop were still a while away, but he couldn't risk moving again. Dan hoped that the dog thing would be a good enough distraction so Brent didn't see him- but that was sort of unlikely. Ninteen-year-olds hiding behind lamposts are generally hard to miss, but he had to hope. The werewolf could already feel his mood changing again, and he wasn't exactly feeling the want to converse with anyone anymore, let alone Brent McKinney.

Brent continued to trudge along the pavement, slowing down as he grew more tired from what little exercise he was getting. He needed to work out or something because he really was extremely out of shape. Then again, maybe not. Brent wasn't too happy with that idea anyway so he'd just forget about it.
Now, he wasn't one hundred percent sure about this, but Brent had the feeling that normal people didn't go around looking like they were trying to blend in with lampposts. Then again, the guy stood behind the lamppost reminded Brent of someone he'd once known, he wasn't normal in the slightest. There was an uncanny resemblance between the two actually. Brent started to wonder whether there was a possibility that this could be the boy he'd looked after a few years ago...
The hybrid picked up the pace again, a nervous anticipation driving him forwards and making him feel nauseous. Well, shit. This kid could be Daniel's identical twin from what Brent remembered of him. He looked older than Brent remembered, obviously; it had been quite a while since he'd last seen him but there was still no doubt in Brent's mind that this was who he thought it was.
Half of him was furious with the werewolf for the emotional trauma he'd been through once Dan had disappeared. It had kind of torn him up a bit. Daniel had been the person Brent had been closest too, he was the nearest thing to a family member that he'd had left and it really had been painful after he'd left. Because everyone always left him, or vice versa. This was Daniel though. Brent could recall how unstable he was and had to be now. He couldn't afford to get angry and scare him off again. He acted on what the other half of his brain was feeling - the more compassionate side that was relieved to see the dark-haired boy again.
"D-Dan? I... how are you? God, I've been worried sick. You're okay, right?" Brent stuttered, clearly concerned. He didn't try getting too near to Daniel though in case he made him feel uncomfortable. Brent simply tightened his grip on Dianne's lead and tried not to freak out all over the place.

Daniel really was trying his hardest to be a lamppost, but it simply wasn't working. And judging by the way that Brent had sped up a bit, it seemed that he'd been spotted. Crap. Well, he'd have to work on his camouflage another time, because it wasn't really appropriate for that moment.
It seemed kind of stupid, but the closer Brent came, the more nervous Dan seemed to become. It didn't really make sense. Why on earth was he nervous around Brent? They'd been through a lot together, and he'd relied on the crossbreed in the past. If it hadn't been for him, then Daniel might not even still be around. That man had gotten him through some extremely hard times. The only explanation that Daniel was able to come up with was that the trust he'd had in Brent had dissipated. If he hadn't run away, then that might not have happened... but at the time, it had been the only conclusion the werewolf had been able to come to. He'd left Brent so that he hadn't hurt him like he had his family, and he didn't want to hurt him now. If that meant he had to be angry in order to scare him off, then so be it. He was willing to do that.
As Brent stopped next to him, Dan tried even harder to be a lamppost. Although due to how angry he was pretending to be, he was an aggressive lamppost now. Whirling round, he gave Brent his best leave-me-alone glare, which he'd gotten surprisingly good at. His expression faltered slightly at the elder man's caring tone, but he quickly stopped that- he couldn't show signs of weakness. "How do you think I am? I'm absolutely fantastic." The nineteen-year-old winced; that was cold. It might have been necessary, but it was still cold. Plus that sarcastic tone he'd taken on really didn't help matters either, although it might make Brent stay away. That was his hope, anyway. Still, that sort of I-care-about-you look on the crossbreed's face wasn't helping him be angry, so he started glaring at The Mop. At least The Mop wasn't being all sympathetic and making him feel bad.

Brent had the feeling that he wasn't going to be able to stay completely calm for much longer if Daniel was going to give him all this attitude. That was the last thing he needed because it was definitely going to wind him up. Actually, it was starting to already. Automatically, Brent found himself glaring back. "Sorry for asking. I forgot that I'm not supposed to be nice to people." he huffed, placing a hand on his hip and intensifying his glare. Honestly. Brent was trying to be nice and it fucking stung that Daniel didn't even seem to be trying to cooperate with him. He wouldn't bother another time.

Okay, so Dan wasn't communicating well. Was that really such a big problem? He was a teenager, he was allowed to be uncommunacative. Still, it apparently annoyed Brent, as the older man was being all stressy and stuff now. Raising an eyebrow, Dan smirked. "You were never exactly good at being nice to people anyway. I wouldn't have thought it would be a problem for you." The young werewolf couldn't really be bothered to glare any more, so he just sort of stared at the crossbreed for a while, wondering if that failure of a glare was actually meant to intimidate him.

Brent didn't know how he'd ever put up with Daniel before. He seemed more unbearable now than he ever had been. Spending time away from Brent had clearly not done him any good. Brent hadn't being doing too well either since being abandoned by the werewolf. At least he wasn't been glared at anymore, although that didn't stop the man from glaring back. "Excuse me. I have no problem whatsoever with being nice to people." he snapped. That was nothing more than a big, fat lie - Brent refused to tell anyone anything different.

Daniel almost found the glare he was on the receiving end of funny; Brent seemed to be trying far too hard to be intimidating, and it wasn't working at all. Smiling - well, it was more of a smirk again - the werewolf folded his arms. "Well, that's obviously a lie, isn't it? You're a bad liar." The nineteen-year-old had a sudden urge to poke his tongue out in an act of defiance, but some part of his brain decided against it, which was probably wise. Barking a quick, sarcastic laugh instead, the younger man shook his head. "Really bad." In a quieter voice, the werewolf couldn't help but add, "I wish you didn't lie so much. It makes me... sad."

Undoubtedly, that had been a bit of a silly thing to say. The two of them knew that Brent wasn't the nicest of people. He didn't bother trying to lie again to cover up what he'd already said because there would be no point.
He almost didn't catch was Daniel said next, the teen's words were so quiet. But they did make Brent stop, think and drown in guilt. "I am going to lie if you go out of your way to irritate me so much." the hybrid calmed down slightly, his tone and glare both softening.

Despite his original plan, it made Dan happy to see Brent calm down a little bit. He'd never liked seeing his old friend angry all that much, so it was a relief to see him a little less stressed. "Yeah, well... I'm sorry about that." Dan grinned sheepishly, running a hand through his hair. "Defense mechanism, I guess."
The teenager's original plan of leaving Brent alone obviously wasn't going to work now, but what had he been thinking anyway? The only person he'd ever been able to trust was Brent. He needed a friend, and he couldn't be mean to the only one he'd ever really had. Smiling kind of awkwardly, the werewolf shoved his hands in his pockets. "Look, can we just forget about me irritating you and stuff? I don't want you to be my enemy." Daniel cringed; this was just so awkward. Seriously.
