Chase didn't know why he even bothered going to the elemental classroom. He knew he needed to get better at his powers, but that didn't mean he had to come here. Maybe he thought he should pray to psyche or something. It was just... he wasn't big on God things. He didn't believe that there was a God up there. If there was, why was he forced to have to endure the things he did. He shouldn't have to, that's what.
He took a sigh before sitting down on a mat in the classroom. He sat cross legged and closed his eyes. He focused on his powers and tried to expand them as he was trying to feel around for someone's emotions. He didn't think there was anyone around until he felt someone's emotions... right outside the door.

The school was beautiful, one of the most amazing places Kayla had ever been. Of course, the atmosphere helped a whole lot. The air always thrummed with magic, and with so many people in a small place, the energy of emotions was almost overwhelming. She'd had trouble sleeping her first few nights because of it.
She liked the meditation room well enough, but for real practice, she liked the elemental classroom best. Maybe it was just that Kayla was used to using her powers here. Just then, she was feeling in prime condition to practice - serene, positive, and energized. She stopped at the door when she saw someone already in there.
"Oh." She wasn't sure how deep in meditation he was, so Kayla decided not to bother him, instead skirting around him on her way into the room. She pulled a mat down a little ways from him, studying him.

Chase wasn't even sure if he should turn around or not when he heard someone come in, but decided that he didn't want the person to think he was ignoring them, or even just deep in this 'meditation'. Really, it wasn't even meditation. Chase didn't even know what the fuck he was doing so it was kind of just him closing his eyes and trying to focus and possibly getting something but not even knowing for sure.
He opened his eyes and saw a rather small girl not that far from him on a mat. He tried to give her a smile and got as much as he could. "I-If you want t-to be alone, I don't m-mind leaving. I w-wasn't doing much anyways." Chase asked her in a small voice. He really didn't even know why he was there in the first place.

A gentle smile across her lips, Kayla tipped her head to the side and studied the boy in front of her. She could sense the barest hint of his anxiety. He seemed like a sweetheart to her.
Kayla shook her head and scooted her mat closer to his. "No, don't be silly," she told him, her drawl soft but noticeable. "You're a soul fae, right? Me too. I'm Kayla, I'm a first year. I've seen you around a bit." Settling into her new spot, the girl crossed her legs Indian-style and reached a little hand forward in greeting.
"It's easier practicing for us when there's someone else around anyway, don't you think?"

She... didn't want Chase to leave? She was okay with him staying there, and she wanted to.. work together? That was kind of surprising to Chase, but who was he to question things like that. It was easier to work with someone, that was true indeed. Chase nodded softly and took her hand gently. "Yeah it is. A-and y-yeah I am. I'm Chase." he stuttered out as he tried to not act completely useless with his antisocial ways. He was afraid to talk to people, but she seemed nice enough. Her emotions were kind. Chase thought she was safe.

Her powers weren't very strong, but the physical connection between their hands made it easier to parse out the emotions she was getting from him. Kayla gave his hand a soft squeeze, then drew hers back into her lap. "You're not so comfortable around people, huh?" she supposed. Well, you didn't have to be a soul fae to figure that one out. Chase was nervous and a half.
Kayla smoothed out her skirt over her knees, feet tucked under herself delicately. "That's sort of unusual for a soul fae, so far as I know. Most of us are all about keeping company." She looked up and gave him a bright grin. "I guess that makes you special, Chase."
Despite his nervousness, he really did seem like a kind soul to her. Kayla wanted to put him at ease at least a bit, so she figured opening up might help. "I think that's a good thing. Me? I'm sort of special, too. My mama's a werewolf. Some people think it makes me less of a faerie, but I like to think it's just another layer of being, you know?"

Chase could tell Kayla was nothing to worry about. He could just feel it. He could feel her kindness and she was right. He was weird for a soul faery. He knew that normally the type of soul far you are was because of your personality and it didn't make sense that he was a soul fae and not something else. Ten again, he didn't really fit in any of the groups.
Chase listened to what she said though. She was half werewolf. Chase didn't think it mattered much. It just made her different. Different but made who she was. He accepted that. When she opened up though... it almost made him want to open up. He didn't think he could tell her much. But he could tell her some. "Uhm. Well. I'm the way I am for a r-reason." Okay. Maybe he couldn't tell her. That was good right? That told her something? "I t-think it's cool you're a werewolf t-too."

Of course he was the way he was for a reason. Only, Kayla wasn't sure if he meant it was because of something that had happened to him or because he was meant to do something that only a shy soul fae could do. Or maybe both. She smiled at him. "I think everything happens for a reason, Chase. And thanks. Not a lot of people are good enough to think that way."
She glanced toward the wall where a poster of relaxation and meditation techniques was posted. She'd been meditating her whole life with her grandma without even knowing it. "I was gonna pray to Psyche. I don't know if you're real religious, but you wanna pray with me?"
Kayla held her hand out. "I'm not too strong yet. It helps if I can feel someone else, if you don't mind."

Everything happened for a reason? Chase didn't believe in that. He didn't think that anything he had done to him should have happened and he didn't get why anyone would think otherwise. Part of him wanted to tell her what happened. Part of him never wanted to speak of it in his entire life.
"I-I'm not religious, b-but sure. I g-guess." Chase didn't believe there was any God up there anymore. He couldn't understand why anyone would want something to happen to him or anyone, yet he was forced to have to deal with his past. Where was a God when he needed one. No where. I-I don't m-mind."
