So, it was going to be her first lesson controlling her shield. Saying she was nervous was an understatement. The girl was terrified. Of course, there was a layer of excitement there too. At long last, she would be able to start harnessing this little 'gift' she had (though, it was more a curse right now). She wondered what she would possibly be able to do when she learnt to control the shield. It was something she hadn't asked Liam. All she knew that she could do was crushing people. Yes, killing people. That was simply wonderful. She hoped that the shield would actually have some advantages.
Making her way down to the magic classes, she found herself humming softly. It was a random tune but she found herself liking it. She continued to hum. She was looking forward to this. She only unlocked her shield from anger. How Liam was going to make her angry, she didn't know. Like she would get angry at Liam. The man had helped her through so much. Heck. He'd been her mentor in the games. Now he was helping her with this. It was going to be simply impossible to get angry with him.
The humming stopped as she reached the classroom. She knocked and then entered. She was ready for this, wasn't she? Learning to control the shield would be amazing but it'd be a lot of work. And when she spent most days just wanting to sleep? Well, it was going to kill her energy levels but most of the magic classes did. "Hey Liam, I'm ready to try and kill you" she spoke with a teasing smirk on her face.
Okay. So maybe this would be fun. It all depended on how easy it would be to get her angry. She stepped further into the classroom and leaned against one of the desks. "I'm ready when you are" she told him. Pan had never been one to beat around the bush. She wanted to start learning to control the shield and harnass what it could offer her. Yes, the young witch actually wanted to become better. She wasn't the best magically and that actually rather irritated her. She'd love to start learning. To be powerful. Powerful enough that people would never see her as weak. And this was one step toward that goal.

It was strange, Liam could almost swear he felt excitement over the aspect of helping Pandora to control her shield. Perhaps it was because it was something new, he was a Shielder himself but he had never been taught by someone with the ability themselves nor had he had the chance to teach anyone else with the ability, it was unknown territory, a challenge and yes, he was very much looking forward to it. It made him wonder, what two sorcerers with the ability could do when either together or against each other in battle and actually made him crave the chance to be one day presented with the opportunity with someone as his equal in power. He was always a man that enjoyed competition, of course he was, he was a Redferne. However- not in an arrogant way- he was so much stronger and powerful when it came to magic than his younger siblings and others he knew well enough to spar with, that he rarely got a chance to exercise his magic at full power and ability. The only one that came close to his power and was an equal match was Cain, but the two of them rarely engaged in sparring with each other anymore because of the fact that they now, as teachers, didn’t have as much time and battles between the two of them had been known to last a couple of days and once even and handful more than that.
As he cleared away the classroom and used his wand to cast magic to make the room bigger, a part of him hoped that he didn’t push the young witch too hard. Liam was so used to having only really helped teach and train his siblings that even when he first began teaching at the academy, he had to keep reminding himself that his students weren’t as accustomed to the usual cold, harsh and sometimes even extreme ways of teaching that Liam and his siblings were so used to. He didn’t want Pandora to be exposed to too much of that.
When Pandora knocked and entered the room, she seemed to be in high spirits but he could also see nervousness in her blue gaze. Liam couldn’t help but smirk himself at her ballsy words, spoken with a teasing smirk. It reminded him of his little sister, Aria. If all his younger siblings really, thinking they could take on the world with their hands tied behind their back. "The key word being; try, Pandora” He replied, the small amused smirk still on his face. “But don’t worry, you won’t succeed.” He shook his head as he spoke but the thought was amusing to say the least. He knew death should never be a funny matter, but he couldn’t help but think that if he, of all people, was killed today by someone with far less than half his power…it would be an event that go down in the history books and he would laugh in his grave.
The eldest Redferne unbuttoned the cuffs to his shirt and rolled up his sleeves, absentminded to the scars littered across his arms and with his dark wand in his left hand at the ready, his facial expression returned to its usual stone cold mask as he spoke “Good, but before we start, bear in mind whatever I say or do, it’s nothing personal.” To anger someone to the point where they wanted to kill you, well, it was something that couldn’t be done lightly. He had to eventually be harsh and cruel in order for this to work. “And I’ll try to bear in mind that even though you’re weaker than me and just girl, doesn’t mean you are entirely pathetic.” He begun, it was a small remark that he didn’t really mean, Liam Redferne, of all the people, didn’t see others in that way but it was a small comment that although may not seem to scratch the surface, it was intended to get under her skin. A little kickstart to touch on any inner competitiveness and make her want to prove herself and motivate her to try to kick his ass whether she would be conscious of the feeling, or it be planted in her subconscious.
“Evanescant” He spoke a spell to cause the desk she leant on to disappear, sending her ungracefully to the floor. He was going to try and start things off as any spar, any kind of magical training to get her blood and magic pumping. He sighed “What are you sitting around and waiting for Pandora? Hit me with your best shot. I thought you said you were ready when I was?” He asked impassively, almost as if he were bored (which may have be slightly true at this stage).

Pandora gave a short laugh as he responded. Yes. It would be an extraordinary event if she managed to actually harm her professor. Let alone kill. Of course, she would try not to. Somehow, having the entire Redferne family after her for killing their brother didn't seem very fun at all. Even if she had protection of a few vampires, that would be a very even fight and one she didn't want. But, harming Liam Redferne.. That'd be an achievement. One she would never let him live down. The young witch was nice like that. "I won't? Aww, well, that's taken all the fun out" she spoke, still teasing.
As he rolled up the sleeves of his shirt, she noticed the scars briefly but then made sure her eyes never looked there. Of course, she faintly knew some things about the harsh methods of the Redferne clan. It was something she would never pry into from any of the siblings. Instead, her gaze was on the wand in his hand. As she met his eyes when he spoke, he no longer was smirking with her. It was time for her training to begin. She shrugged off his words "I know that already, Liam" she spoke.
The words that followed made her smirk softly. Well. He'd have to try better than that. She placed a hand on her heart "I'm not? Oh, thank you Sir" she spoke, her words laced with sarcasm. She would try to act angry - if it's something her Uncle had always told in drama is that she would always get angry herself if she acted so. It was amusing in lessons but now? It was something she had to do to make sure she wouldn't kill anyone with her Shield.
He spoke. Her mind didn't have time to even register the spell before she found herself falling. Her ass hit the floor. "Fuck!" she exclaimed as the pain waved through her. Her eyes narrowed as she looked at her teacher. Okay. She didn't think the pain would start that quickly. She searched for some kind of force inside her but felt nothing. She wasn't getting angry.
At his words she stood. Getting her wand from her pocket, she tossed her hair out of her face. She didn't want to be to cruel to him. He was always so kind to her but she had to do this. With her wand gripped in her hand, she waved it in his direction. "Vernerare de sagittis" she spoke. Okay. So. She liked any charms with weapons. She just loved weaponry. Unfortunately, she had a slight smirk on her face. She wasn't angry. She was enjoying this.

"I won't? Aww, well, that's taken all the fun out" The Redferne smiled a small, barely noticeable amused smile over her teasing tone and disappointed words about his comment of how she, no matter how she hard she tried today would not succeed in her attempts at his life. "I know that already, Liam" Liam nodded when the witch said she knew whatever he said or did in order to help her today wasn’t to be taken personally which was good because she had asked for him to help her with her Shield, he said he would and he never went against his word. He would help her today, whatever it took he would break through to that side of her that needed to be invoked in order for her to use her gift. "I'm not? Oh, thank you Sir" His face remained impassive but internally, he smiled as she smirked and put a hand over her heart, he voice laced with sarcasm as she spoke. Once again, Pandora reminded him of his siblings with that tone and attitude of hers and it was amusing.
Liam merely shrugged when Pandora’s eye narrowed at him, neither claiming guilty or innocence but instead, as if what he did was nothing, as if she should’ve expected it. Of which, she probably should’ve. She stood then, retrieving her wand from her pocket as she pushed her pale white-blonde waves from her face. He could see it in her periwinkle blue eyes that she didn’t still didn’t feel any anger towards him. In fact, she didn’t seem to want to really hurt him at all which was maybe slightly a bit disappointing. Then, she waved her wand in his direction and spoke the vernerare de sagittis charm.
The barrage of arrows flew towards him only to be stopped seemingly by hitting an invisible wall a foot before they reached the Curses & Hexes teacher, causing them to drop like flies to the floor. Liam had shielded himself effortlessly from the attack, his own Shield - after more than a decade of mastering his control over it- had become second nature to him, so much so that it even sometimes shielded him by its own accord against a threat. The vernerare de sagittis charm was a poor spell to use on its own against the eldest Redferne. Yes, singular spells were easy to not only deflect but to also shield yourself from, unlike multiple spells fired at the same time. If a barrage of arrows was firing at you as poison nettles crawled up your body and rocks fell from above your head, even a sorcerer with a shield would find it hard to protect themselves from all the threats. An arrow might slip through then, or even a sharp rock especially if you took even the smallest moment to burn away the nettles that irritated your body and even though the injury would be small, it would still be a hit.
Liam knew that this training session was mainly to help Pandora with her Shield but he didn’t see why he couldn’t train her in other areas of combative magic also. He understood that it was just her starting the fight and usually sorcerers with no previous martial magic training often started fights slowly, building up to the more serious spells and combinations, but she was fighting a Redferne here. You had to go all out, pulling no punches to harm a Redferne and judging by the smirk on her face she was neither serious nor angry enough to want to kill him and therefore she wasn’t going to be able to tap into her Shield and that meant that he wouldn’t be able to help her control it. “No using single spells, Pandora. You’re not fighting a first year. You won’t be able to even scratch me unless you start combining your knowledge of different spells to create multiple attacks against me.” He reminded. Liam remembered giving a similar talk to a few recruits during the war (even though it wasn’t his primary duty). Then, he used his Shield against her, sending a small wall of it towards her with enough force to knock her over before bringing it back to him as her arse quickly returned to the floor. “And we’re back to square one.” He sighed. “Get up.” He ordered with a small motion of his hand. "Oh, and maybe tie your hair up to prevent it falling in your face again. If you were fighting a proper fight, your hair being in your face would limit your vision and even though it’ll only for a moment- until you push it aside, it only takes a moment of such a distraction to kill someone.” He advised.

Her spell was easily deflected. She could see that he had used his shield. Something she craved the ability to do. To harness such an extraordinary power. One that was very rare for a half-blood to have. Surely that showed her potential? To have a gift such as a Shield, though currently unable to use it, meant that she had power? That she could become powerful? All the witch had ever wanted was to be great. For people to see her as a strong person. Not weak. Never weak. Though, she'd never been able to prove herself. Not in front of those with powers equal to her.
Her teacher spoke. Words that she knew were true but she hated. This. It was hard for her. She had only been truly learning magic for a year. A year. Now that was something she kept close to her heart. Of course, she'd had this magic pumping through her veins for four years but never did she train. Not like she had at Northvale. Her mother had only ever taught her the basics when her powers set in. Enough so she could control these powers. So, as a result, unlike some, she was unable to think of fifty different combinations at once. She hadn't learnt enough to even know that many spells, let alone use them.
A force hit her then. She fell once more. Pain shooting through her body though this time she didn't speak. She didn't let out a profanity. That only showed her for what she was. Someone who was weak and unable to protect herself. The thought was almost unbearable. Never had the witch focused so much on her flaws. And then Liam proceeded to speak. Words that actually made her, well, irritated. It was the order that had done it. His next words hardly registered in her mind - though her subconcious had listened. No one orders her around. No one. He had absolutely no right to do so. "Stop putting me fucking down here then" she hissed. Whether he'd hear her words or not, she had no clue.
As she went to stand once again, with a flick of her hand her hair began to move. It knotted itself in a loose bun. She smirked to herself. Okay. So, maybe it was a little vain of her to know how to do magic like that both wordless and wandless but Pandora had always slightly cared about her appearance. To always look perfect was a trait that her Grandparents taught her. Of course, normally she would have tied her hair up manually. Those very same Grandparents had tried to push the magic from her the day they found it existed. However, she was in a fight situation now. Tying up her white blonde locks would be a distraction. It would also render her incapable of defending herself for a few seconds. And, truth be told, she really wasn't sure if Liam wouldn't have taken advantage of that. This was a fight now. A fight that, for the sake of her pride, that she prayed she wouldn't lose too badly. And she damn well hoped she'd stop ending up on her arse. It bloody hurt.
Then she remembered the brief thought she'd had only moments ago. Her magic had been seen as a weakness. An undesirable trait. Again and again she'd been yelled at for using these strange new powers. Her teeth ground together. Fire mixed with the blood in her veins. Well. This was a chance to prove them all wrong. She was fighting the most powerful man at Northvale. One word and he could kill her. Although Pandora knew it in her heart that he would never, she would have to be on guard. It was time that she proved to herself that she could do this. That the magic she had running through her veins were not her downfall. It was something much more desirable.
With a new sense of power, she found herself gripping her wand a little more tightly. She wasn't allowed to use singular spells? Okay. Her last charm had been purely defensive. She really didn't want to hurt Liam but pride was clouding the affection she felt for him now. She had ended up on her arse one too many times. He was making her feel weak. Helpless. Two factors that made her blood boil. Combined with his words? She felt that familiar rise of magic. It was still weak but her thoughts on everything - her life growing up as a witch in an human household was fuelling her anger. One too many times had the world insulted the young girl and she was tired of it. It was time to show them all what she was really made of.
Pointing her wand to her teacher she spoke, some kind of new person taking over, or old. This woman was back to her old self. Before she came to Northvale. Before she found all of her friends and what made her happy. She was cold. Heartless almost. "adolebit; fumus scrinio" she spoke but stayed silent for her last spell. The thought ran through her mind as she waved her wand for the third time. Petra lapsum. A cold smirk found it's place on her face. Wordless magic, though it drained her energy faster, was fun. That way the opponent doesn't know what hit them. In this case, literally. If he wanted combination spells, he could have them. She'd started with a simple charm to burn his clothing. Just for the distraction. Followed by a smokescreen to render him temporarily blind as she then, wordlessly, produced the rock slide. Oh. It was fun to be a witch.
