Boreai In General Boreai are essentially faeries, except for two major differences - they do not have a miniature form (nor wings, for that matter), and the elements that they control are strikingly different from that of a faerie. They do not believe in a special connection to a deity, either, and so all Boreai, pureblood or not, take on a human last name. The element that they control is decided by their personality, and not their lineage, just as with faeries.
Each Borea ages at 5 years a century, just as Faeries do, meaning that they can live to a maximum of 2000 years. They are said to have originated in Siberia, according to the legend of a sorcerer who cursed the once-faeries for their harsh, cold hearts. However, not all Boreai are mean-spirited and heartless, like this legend suggests (although many are).
Dark Boreai
These are what are known as "Cursed", "Corrupted" or "Mutated" Soul Faeries. They can feel and manipulate the emotions of others, but only negative emotions, such as sadness, anger or fear. They have been known to be able to create extremely vivid hallucinations of a person's worst fear, and are rumored to enjoy doing so. They are normally dark, twisted people, often sadists.
Ice Boreai
These are the most common of the Boreai, as this is the group that the curse started with. Having originated from Water Faeries, this group of Boreai can manipulate, create and absorb ice. They often come off as cold and harsh as the ice they can control. They are usually cool, calm and patient but with a fury, that if provoked, could rival any fire faerie in its destructiveness. They're also a group that doesn't easily trust others outside of their species; They're very cautious creatures.
Light Boreai
These Boreai are mutated from Fire Faeries, and can manipulate, control and absorb light particles. Unlike their faerie counterparts, these little creatures are eccentric, energetic and jumpy, without the attitude problems that come with the ability to control fire, something that their element is based from.
Lightning Boreai
These Boreai have a mutated form of the Air Faeries' ability to control the weather. They can manipulate, create, control and absorb electric fields. They have essentially the same personality as Air Faeries, except they are a little more practical and commanding than their Faerie counterparts. They are also a little more dangerous when angered or provoked, as they have been known to kill in fits of rage.
Metal Boreai
These are mockingly nicknamed "Tinker Fairies" because of their hardworking, humorless nature. Due to industrialization, they have mutated the ability to manipulate the metal elements that are often found in the Earth - whether that be moving it, molding it or manipulating it in any other way short of creating and absorbing it, as they cannot do either of these things.
Faeries In General
Each Faerie takes on the name of the God or Goddess of their element as their last name and believe that they are connected to them. But, half-blood Faeries usually take on the name of their non-Faerie parent as they are not regarded as as important as pure-blood Faeries - though they have the same range of abilities as the others of their element do. Also, their element is something that they are born with and it is chosen based on their personality, not on their lineage.
All Faeries, whether they are pure-blood or half-blood age five years per century, however when born they do age normally until they hit eighteen. The only creature that can out live them are Vampires, who are immortal. They are also normal height and do not have wings. However, they can shrink down into a smaller form of themselves, in which they do have wings.
Air Faeries
The Air element deity is Aether, the Greek Goddess of Air. When a Faerie has control over Air they have the ability to create wind of whatever strength they want. Air Faeries usually have a cheerful demeanour and tend to live in their own little dream world and have trouble concentrating. They are usually pacifists and rather playful. They are also the most common type of Faery.
Earth Faeries
When a Faerie has control over Earth, their deity is Gaia, the Greek Goddess of Earth. They are able to grow and manipulate plants and move parts of earth such as rocks and mud. Earth Faeries tend to be realists and strong warriors. This is why they are not many left as most perished fighting in the War.
Fire Faeries
Fire faeries are followers of Hephaestus, the Greek God of Fire. They can create and manipulate Fire. Fire Faeries have a tendency to have anger management issues and an attitude. They are ruled by their emotions - which they have trouble controlling.
Soul Faeries
Psyche is the namesake Goddess of this little group. They have the ability to feel and manipulate the emotions of those around them. They can also, with enough training, communicate with others telepathically. They like to be around others as their feelings almost empower them. They are very dependent on others and are not the most logical of people.
Water Faeries
Water Faeries believe in Oceanus, the Greek God of Water. They are able to manipulate large masses of water, but cannot create it. However, if skilled enough, they can channel the healing properties of water and use them to heal wounds. They have a go-with-the-flow type of attitude and sometimes described as lazy and too calm - as they do not get angry easily. But, when they do get angry, they are a force to be reckoned with.
Humans
Humans, as the name implies, are just like most of us who walk this Earth. They don't possess any powers, age normally, and could possible be considered as 'out of place' in this town. Any humans that wish to live in Northvale must know about the supernatural world to save trouble for the Council. It would be a bit of a struggle to explain things that must remain secret to a frightened, confused human, wouldn't it?
Sirens
Sirens are supposedly mythical creatures that possess an almost unnatural beauty. This makes them, invariably, rather vain. Each Siren has vanity almost hard-wired into their DNA, and cannot often pass a mirror or any other reflective surfaces without stopping to look at themselves first. However, they are also gentle, peaceful creatures unless hunting or threatened. This is part of the reason that Sirens avoided fighting in the war, and waited until it was over to join the Council.
Sirens also have outstanding musical capabilities, each possessing a singing voice that some could describe as 'hypnotic'. In some stories, Sirens are depicted as evil, although beautiful, creatures that lure men to their deaths using this capability. However, this was a malicious rumor spread by those who had no prior knowledge of their existence before sharing such stories. On contact with water, a Siren's legs will transform into a beautiful tail, which they obviously use to swim. This is also where the legend of Merpeople came from - except that they aren't really a legend at all.
Sirens age at 10 years per century, meaning that they could live to be 1000-1250 years old. They are one of the three longest-living races, behind Faeries and Vampires. Oh, and one more thing. Contrary to popular belief, this race is not exclusively female, although it is rare for a Siren to be male.
Sorcerers
Sorcerers are basically humans that have mastered using the full capacity of their brain that enables them to use magic and they are also smarter than humans as well. They age at the same rate as humans though.
Sorcerers generally stay away from humans as they are reguarded as ignorant and that they bring shame to their race. They are known for their use of reason and magic. It may seem a strange combination, but for them it is natural. They rarely act on emotions, but by using their wit they come to a conclusion on what to do in the certain situation. Any sorcerer that judges their actions through their emotions is reguarded as weak. Even when choosing their partner they do not do it through love, but by who suits them best and what would be best for their Clan.
Sorcerers live in Clans- and the name of the Clan of which the Sorcerer is in is their surname - and each had a Chief which was chosen by the other members for their cool use of logic and magic after their previous Chief dies. After the ritual of making one of the Clan Chief the Chief's mind becomes stronger. This is the reason why everyone else follows their every word. Each Clan is one big family and members usually find partners at the national and international Clan meetings that are held each year. They can do wandless magic, but that is simple things such as levitation or starting a small fire. Then each one yields a wand made of the tree that is selected for them at birth and has been granted powers by the Chief of the Clan of which the sorcerer resides. These give them full control over their powers and took years to formulate.
In the War they fought purely because they thought the other creatures as too destructive and rash so they decided they needed to get rid of them. But, after many many deaths, a meeting with all the Chiefs of the Clans, and their numbers starting to dwindle, the Peace Treaty seemed like a good idea.
Vampires
Vampires would have probably been the winners in the wars before the peace treaty which means they were the ones who didn't want to sign. It is this fact that makes vampires quite cruel toward other races and hating the peace-treaty as they can now not be the superior race.
These creatures also detest the sunlight. They can walk out into the light but it is the sun which weakens them - lessening their powers of speed and strength so they do not feel as superior when they are walking in the sun. Drinking blood helps to keep up their powers and it is drinking from other races that makes them even stronger however after the peace-treaty this was forbidden so vampires now drink human, and if they can find nothing else, animal blood. The school provides bottles of blood for vampires.
Vampires are immortal but they can die, it is the bite of a werewolf that is most potent to them. The fangs of a vampire come out at will and it is when these fangs are out that they emit a venom. This venom is potent to werewolves, but has the ability to change any other race,. The transformation is a long and painful process and is only successful 50% of the time. The transformation will only take place, however, if the vampire releases venom into their victim at any time during the bite.
If the change is successful, the recipient will remain the age that they were bitten at for eternity. As said, Vampires are immortal, can run extraordinarily fast and are very strong, but other than those and the fangs, they don't possess any real powers.
Note: Female bittens cannot procreate.
Werewolves
Werewolves do not only change at full moon. They have the ability to change at will and their wolf form is an extra personality for them. You will often find with a werewolf that they often speak of 'their wolf' as a seperate person as many belief that the wolf side is. They are quicker to anger, more impulsive and always rely on their instincts. It is the human side of these wolves that actually has control. At the full moon, however, these wolves have full control over their human side. It is when the moon is at its strongest that the wolves are - also meaning that at a new moon the wolf is at its weakest.
Werewolves also have a slower aging process than sorcerers and normal humans. A bitten werewolf will tend to live double the lives of mortals and probably reach over two-hundred years of age. A born werewolf, however, can live until over five-hundred if they are changing into their wolf form often enough. Once a born werewolf stops changing they can turn mortal - often used for when they fall in love with a human. It was the wars that dramatically reduced the number of born werewolves and increased bitten. The born were simply not being bred fast enough meaning more died then survived.
In wolf form, these creatures look just like normal wolves only slightly larger. Their hair colour will be the wolves fur colour and their eyes are always the same in both forms. The only time a werewolf is unable to change into their human form is during pregnancy though it is during this time that not only hormones are raging through their body but their inner wolf is angry at not being able to be let loose.
Mixed Races
The offspring of two different races will result in skills from both parents in different ways, depending on said parents. The race will also be mixed if a siren, sorcerer or faerie is bitten by a vampire or a werewolf, however, this only happens if venom is released at any time during the bite.
With sorcerers, they can have children with all the other races. These children will have the attributes of the faerie, werewolf or vampire with the one strongest skill (either charms, curses/hexes/potions/transfiguration) from the sorcerer. They will only be able to build this skill up, however, to the level of the sorcerer’s at point of conception and if you are increasing their magic level, it does not count toward the stats if it is a werewolf or vampire’s child also.
Vampire’s can have children with sirens, sorcerers and faeries. They cannot have children with werewolves as where the venom and bite are fatal to one another; the child cannot exist with both. A vampire and a faerie’s child would have the attributes of a vampire with the ability to gain the skills of the faerie (of their own element) only up to how high the parent’s was at conception.
A werewolf can have children with sirens, sorcerers and faeries. The offspring of a werewolf and faerie has the attributes of the faerie but at full moon they turn into a wolf. It is during the full moon that they take on the attributes of the wolf but it will only last for that period of time before they once more become a faerie.
Sirens can have children with all the other races. The offspring of a siren and a faerie will create a faerie with the characteristics of a siren. It is the same with sorcerers, although a sorcerer x siren mix will leave the offspring with one magical talent out of charms, potions, curses/hexes and transfiguration. Siren x werewolf mixes are, in short, uncannily beautiful werewolves. Siren x vampire mixes use their beauty as an advantage when they are hunting, hence the rumors that circulate about sirens as a whole.
