It was just something about the theatre hall that made Jonah feel... at home. If he even really knew the definition of the word "home". Because it definitely wasn't that godawful manor that he'd lost most of his childhood in. No, it wasn't even close to that. To him, home was where you felt completely at ease, free to let your guard down, free to do whatever you so pleased. And right now, in this room, he felt this way. Like nothing could get him. Like he was going to be completely fine. Because he knew it was okay to feel that way now - why wouldn't it be? He was away from that, from them - he had been for a while.
Thing was, it might have been easy to get rid of them. It'd been easier for Liam and Cain than Jonah had even thought possible, actually. But wasn't so easy was getting rid of the memories that he associated with them. He'd tried to push them away at first. But to no avail. So why bother even trying? It wasn't as if he wasn't strong enough to just deal with it. It'd happened - no point in acting like it never did. He could either let it stop him, or let it make him better - the latter option seemed far more appealing to him. He was a Redferne. True Redfernes always survived. Jonah was a survivor - it was practically in his blood to be.
Still, he couldn't help but take the slightest amount of comfort in the fact that he was alone, in front of the rows of plush, red, tiered seating. The lights illuminating the stage were not overly hot, just enough to make him feel warm. Feel happy. Even if it was just for a single, fleeting moment, a smile passed over his normally straight face, as he closed his eyes and tilted his head up to the lights, not caring that he would probably be blinded if he dared open them for even a second. He was feeling good - he could have this moment.

If there was one thing that was certain about the young hybrid teen that was running through the corridors of Northvale Academy it was that she had a very active imagination. To the normal eye, they'd just see her running with a thrilled smile on her face as if she had just messed with an angry bear and was being chased but she wasn’t, of course. In Elaena Dawkins mind however? She had messed with an angry bear. An enormous Polar Bear. And now it was storming through the corridors chasing after her with the intent of mauling her for irritating it. Alongside of her, her little companion ran- her pet fox that held the name 'Rascal'- and seemed to be playing along with the young light boreai-siren’s fun and games. Elaena skidded in her tracks when she came to the end of one corridor and was faced with a choice; she could either go left or right. Which way should she run? Glancing over her shoulder she saw the massive Polar bear getting closer and closer. She needed to make the decision now. She didn’t have time to stand and ponder over it. "Let's split up. Rascal." The young red-head looked down at her companion and pointed left. "You go that way." She nodded. "I'll go this way." Elaena jerked her to the right hand route. "Until we meet again, boy." She nodded at him, acting solemnly as if this was truly a life or death situation but internally she was smiling with amusement.
The two then split: the girl taking to the left and her pal to the right and she began to ran as if her life depended on it again. Despite trying to take it seriously like her mind demanded, she couldn't help but laugh as she ran, her red hair flying in waves behind her like flames and her dark blue eyes glimmering with the joy of a free spirit. This whole game reminded her of the song her mum used to sing when Elaena's daddy was chasing after her when she was just a little toddler. "Run rabbit, run rabbit, run run run, don't let the farmer get his fun fun fun. He'll get by, without his rabbit pie. Run rabbit, run rabbit, run run run~” Elaena sang lightly, with a giggle in her voice. She came across a large closed door, and burst through it not registering or caring where exactly she was going...a polar bear was chasing her! She didn't have time to care. The young teen glanced over her shoulder, to peek back at the beast- he wasn't far behind at all! Elaena quickly then whipped her head back around to face ahead where she was going again and-BAM. She crashed into someone.
The speed the young girl had been running at made it so the impact and force of crash caused her to not only just bump the person, oh no, she full on caused the two of them to topple over, her falling on a heap onto the individual. Game ended. Elaena was so startled herself that the imaginary scenario completely shattered and for a moment all she did was blink, then sitting lifting her head up she looked down at the person she fell on- the boy she fell on. Her eyes widened, not out of embarrassment it seemed but because…oh goodness! What if she had hurt him?! "Oh my gosh. I'm so sorry!" She apologized, scrambling off him, her loose hair a complete mess and her winter blue eyes wide with worry. "I haven't hurt you, have I?" The hybrid asked, then shuffled on her knees over to the boy, gently and carefully helping him up, and lightly rubbing the back of his head. "I didn't mean to...I'm so sorry..."

It was funny how one split second could completely change a moment, whether that be for better or for worse. It was pretty easy to relate to acting, actually - acting was reacting. A scene couldn't flow if there was nothing to keep it moving. Something had to make it go, and sometimes, it was the impulses of the actors involved that pushed a scene onwards. It completely changed the game, made what Jonah did utterly unpredictable. But if he was honest with himself, he loved it for that very reason. In some cases, it was strangely exciting not knowing what was around the next corner.
It all happened too fast for him to process, really.
The doors bursting open with a sharp creak. Light, almost dancing footsteps pelted the wooden flooring like raindrops. Running. The wizard could tell by the spacing of the soft taps. They were fairly close together, at a one-two-one-two kind of beat instead of the one-two-three-four that people walked at. Walking pace was slower than that, he was absolutely certain. No, this person was running, or at least skippong or hopping.
And then it ocurred to him that he would probably have to end up moving out of the way. If this person was running, there was a good chance that the stage would be the first place they ran. The chairs were hard to manouvre. It made far mire sense to run where the floor was clear, where there was actually space to run. In which case, it was probably a good idea to just move slowly and carefully out of the--
THWACK.
The next thing he knew, he was greeted by the hardwood flooring of the stage. It was weird, actually, was the amount of force he hit it with. It was enough to send him reeling, most definitely - the runner must have been going pretty fast. It was the back of his head that made the contact first; not enough to knock him out or anything, but certainly enough to make him feel dizzy, andmaybe even a little sick. He hadn't been expecting it at all. That was a game changer, if he ever experienced one.
Groaning in pain, he slowly lifted himself from the floor, only to find careful hands slowly guiding him upright. In his haze, he'd completely forgotten about the culprit, the person who had just knocked him over and could damn well have given him a concussion. Who ran around enclosed spaces like these anyway? That was so dangerous. And that might have made him sound stuffy and old fashioned and no fun, but it was the truth. He didn't even know if the other person was alright.
Blue eyes narrowed almost to slits, he looked up at the other person, only to be completely taken aback. It was a girl. And not just any girl - a tiny one. She honestly looked like she'd just stepped out of a children's picture book. She was just so elfin, so pixie-like; she looked like she'd be found sitting on top of a mushroom or something. That coupled with her facial expression of pure, unadulterated worry, and any harsh words that Jonah had just dissolved on his tongue, leaving him to stare almost blankly at her. Not quite, but almost.
And then he registered her words. The more she said, the more genuinely concerned she sounded as she helped him up. As she began to lightly rub the back of his head, he flinched away from the contact. Partly pain, partly memories. He didn't like people touching him withouf his permission, even if they were as slight and kind as this girl seemed to be. He'd already decided that being horrible about this, like was his original intention, was not going to happen. But that didn't mean that he was okay with her invading his personal space. Not just yet.
"...S'fine," the boy mumbled, lifting his eyes to meet the girl's. Blue on blue. It wasn't fine, not really, but he would get over it. Besides, she really did seem sorry. And something told Jonah that being horrid to her was not going to help matters. It never helped matters, even if it was something that almost came naturally. "You might have... but don't worry y'self. I've done a lot worse." Well, that wasn't technically true. But anything to just get her to calm down a bit.

She had caught the boy’s cold blue eyes had narrowing at her and Elaena had a little feeling that maybe she should’ve been scared or threatened or intimidated but…she didn’t? Or couldn’t? Maybe because despite those eyes looking angry, they were very beautiful. They managed to somehow to look hard, cold and like they had some underlying sadness there that made her both curious and slightly saddened herself. But they were the kind of eyes that she imagined were originally softer and warmer and there was something that told her that they retained that somewhere, hidden away beneath the surface. She wasn’t too sure really, perhaps it was just her imagination taking control again. Either way, they were blue like her own but a far lovelier shade- in her opinion. Elaena knew it was a silly thing to feel- especially right now- but she did feel kind of envious. She blamed the siren in her. But when he flinched away from her when she lightly rubbed the back of the boy’s head, that’s when she backed off, trying not to get upset over it as she scooted backwards, and gave him space.
Then, his pretty cold blue eyes met hers as he told her it was fine. Now, she wasn’t stupid and completely oblivious. Elaena could tell the boy was not fine with what happened but before she could even begin to worry about upsetting him, he told her not to and that he’d done a lot worse…which made her feel slightly better. “I know I’ve already said this twice but three times a charm; I’m sorry.” She pushed aside some of her hair that had fallen in her face “I should’ve been more careful though.” She nodded. “I guess I just got lost in my own head for a bit there…it tends to happen to me a lot. I forget where I am.” .” It was true; Elaena had forgot that there was bound to be people around. She wasn’t at home anymore where she could run in the fields by her house or on the sandy beach and disappear into a world that was far from reality...she now was in a proper city and a school full of other people. She had to be more considerate and careful about those around her.
Sitting down on the stage ground properly, crossing her legs, Elaena offered a bright friendly smile, and then it faltered for a moment “Oh! How rude of me, I knock into you and I haven’t even had the decency to introduce myself and ask of your name! Tut tut tut. No manners.” She shook her head at herself. “My name’s Elaena. Elaena Dawkins…I’m new?” The hybrid smiled again, then laugh ever so lightly. “And your name is?”

It was true that Jonah had been through worse than this, but that didn't take the edge off of the pain and the accompanying nausea. He couldn't remember the last time he'd hit his head quite so hard. It'd been a while ago, that was for certain. Long enough for him to forget what it felt like. Which, in turn, meant that his reaction was partly shock, although mostly pain. It wasn't as if he'd expected the girl to come careering into him.
Speaking of the girl, she'd started talking again. It appeared that she'd picked up on his apparent disdain, as she apologised a third time. Despite himself, that made Jonah feel a little bit bad. Judging by how guilty she seemed, it'd truly been an accident. And although it was mostly her fault, he was partly to blame for not moving iut of the way in time. He'd always been a little bit slow, in that sense. And even though that was hardly a problem anymore, it woukd have still come in handy to be quick sometimes.
As he blinked up at the girl, slightly blurry vision comung back into focus, he noticed something that he hadn't before. She was... a rather beautiful girl. Long waves of fiery red hair that fell to her waist, ocean blue eyes - yes, she wasn't exactly very hard to look at at all. Which made this about ten times worse, because it was actually quite distracting. He couldn't be angry as long as those ndoe eyes looked at him - it didn't feel right. "Really, it's... it's okay." he said more sincerely that before, waving dismissively. "What... uh, What about you? Are you alright?" It was only polite and fair to check.
It was a given that Jonah Redferne was not the most socially advanced of people, as was typical of the Redferne siblings as a whole, excluding little Elodie. Jonah rarely had reasin to be socially apt - he was much more content merely sitting in the corner of his drama classes with a script book rather than making attenpts to befriend people in the same lesson slot as him. He was at Northvale Academy to learn, not to make friends. Even though he was generally polite and friendly when he put his mind to it, Northvale seemed like a dangerous place to make friends.
But that seemed to be exactly what this girl - Elaena - was aiming to do.
It amused him the slightest bit, actually. A girl, new to the school, immediately tried to make friends with a persin that she had just injured or who might have injured her. A Redferne, too. Even though she probably behaved in a like manner to everyone she so happened to meet, he couldn't help but find the fact that she'd want to befriend someone like him quite funny. Most definitely not enough to laugh, but enough to crack a small smile, something that was rarely seen around people who weren't his siblings.
Everyone forgot their manners occasionally, so Jonah excused her slight social falter with a shake of his head and a halfway decent smile. Not one hundred percent sincere like hers, but a sort of smile all the same. "Jonah," the young wizard introduced himself somewhat awkardly. "Jonah Redferne." Secretly, Jonah hoped that she wasn't faniliar with his clan, because it led to all sorts of assumptions. He knew that it was more than likely that she would be, but he could still hope. To a certain extent, at least.

“Okay, if you say soooo~” She replied in a sing-song voice with a tiny smile. “And me? I’m fine…you cushioned my fall” She answered, trying not to giggle because it wouldn’t be very nice to laugh about someone hurting themselves instead of you…but it was her own wording that she found amusing. In fact, it was so hard to keep in that she had to cover her mouth with her hand- as if the action would hide the evidence- and snicker quietly to herself.
Then, the boy smiled ever so slightly and after her little sneaky giggle to herself, her hand dropped and she just looked at the smile for a moment and how- although small- it happened to brighten his features. Gosh, she loved it when people smiled. It always made her smile too no matter what mood she was in. Smiles- to Elaena Dawkins- were contagious. Though, this one was still only a small one. She wanted to see a bigger, proper one on the boy’s face and she was officially making it a mission of hers to see one. “I really like your smile” She complimented. “Oh! And your eyes!” She seemed to forget his discomfort of her being too close for a moment as she scooted over to him and gently took his face into her hands- her touch feather-light, as if she were scared to hurt him. Goodness, those eyes. Looking closer she could see they were not just simply a beautiful blue, oh no, they seemed to be half green too. They reminded her of whenever she laid beneath the canopy of trees- in the woodland area near her home- and gazed upwards through the gaps and holes between the leaves where she could catch a peek at the azure stretch of sky behind the luscious green. She half expected some fluffy white clouds to wander across the blue she was gazing at now.“No. I love your eyes.” She corrected, her voice barely above a whisper as lowered her hands and yet another smile slowly formed on her face. Then she shuffled back a little again, still looking at him. Actually, in general he was a very dashing young fellow. As partially siren, Elaena did admire someone’s physical beauty (even though she valued inner beauty higher) and the boy in front of her was definitely beautiful on the outside.
Jonah. Like the story of Jonah and the Whale! “Well Jonah, if a whale ever swallows you- I’d come after and save you,” She nodded matter-of-factly. “Promise.” She smiled, then marked her chest with a cross- the area where beneath her clothes, skin and ribcage her heart would lie. Redferne. Their names together sounded like they could be the title of a book: ‘The Adventures of Jonah Redferne and Elaena Dawkins’- inside her crazy little mind she considered that perhaps one day they could have their own little story. An adventure story! One that would make all those who read it green with envy and yearn for their very own magnificent tale. Though she hardly knew the boy. So, of course she was going to have to get to know him better to see if he could handle such an adventure, and obviously he was going to have to get approved by Rascal but, Elaena had hope.
Curiosity bloomed inside of Elaena like a rosebud as a thought crossed her mind; what race was he? She felt a flicker of excitement of the likelihood of him being of a different race from a light boreai or siren. “Jonaaah...” The hybrid stretched out his name as she trailed circle and swirl-like patterns across the wooden floor. “What race are you?” She asked forwardly. It was only after she asked did it occur to her that just openly asking such a thing to a stranger could be once again considered rude. “If you don't mind me asking that is!” She quickly added.

Granted, this whole palaver could have gone a lot worse. It certainly had the potential too. He could have been badly hurt, or worse, she could have. Both of them could have. And that, of course, wouldn't exactly have been a desirable outcome. So really, he should just be thanking his lucky stars that they were both okay. Besides, it really had been an accident. He couldn't be angry at a girl who had obviously been the victim of her own clumsiness. She'd apologised, and there was no more she could do. So it may as well have been put to rest.
The young Redferne boy might even have laughed a little when she said that he broke her fall. He did like to be a gentleman sometimes, and this was proof! She looked rather fragile too - like a china doll. Maybe it was a good thing that he "broke her fall". She looked like the type to shatter into a million pieces if she hit the floor too hard. And that wouldn't have been nice at all, despite the fact that he barely knew her. "Well, that's okay then," he nodded at her, flicking his eyes over her skin and looking for any marks just in case. But she looked unharmed, so it was fine. "No harm done."
And all of a sudden, almost out of nowhere, came the compliments. First his smile, then his eyes, which he blinked in response to her words. The light brush of her fingertips against the skin of his cheek as she cupped his face in her hands, peering into his eyes with a smile. The kind of smile that was unavoidably contagious, even though he rarely smiled. He couldn't help but awkwardly grin as was his fashion, nodding s he pulled his head back slowly. "...Thank you?" he said to her. "I, uh... I like... your hair?" He really did; it looked soft, the same colour as sunset. But the way he said it sounded like he was unsure. He was sure, though. He wasn't just trying to be polite - he meant it.
The moments of silence that followed were a bit too long for his taste, so he was very glad that she spoke up when she did. Even if it was with another question. One that he didn't have to answer, but it was simple enough, and not offensive to him as it was to some. "I'm a sorcerer," he said with a nod. "And yourself?"
(OOC: soRRY IT'S SO SHIT OMFG)
