I was shocked. I slowly felt my lips part and my mouth hang wide open as I stared at the boy in front of me. I strongly resisted the urge to close my jaw with my hand since I realized that despite my efforts it refused to go up. I had expected the conversation to be distant and awkward but I was not prepared for blunt rejection. What kind of bloated self-image did this stringy haired boy have of himself that he would say something so so dismissive? I felt my anger boil up inside me and I regained control of my mouth. “Uh I guess I should go now” I rasped.

It surprised Robyn to hear a new voice. She turned around, looking at the boy that had just approached them. This was another stranger to her but it didn't really surprise Robyn that she didn't know who he was. After all, she had barely spoken to anyone since she had gotten to Northvale. She made a mental note to fix that. Life would be boring just sitting around by yourself, doing nothing.
She looked the guy up and down, trying to work him out as much as she could without asking any questions. She wasn't very good at evaluating people though so she was doing a terrible job at it. "Well hey there." she said, slipping her hands into the pockets of her jacket. She glanced at Bert, thinking that his hello had been little rude to the poor guy that had just come up to them. When he took out another cigarette, Robyn tisked and rolled her eyes.
"Don't mind him, he's merely a boy that hasn't learned any manners yet." Robyn informed the new guy. Her voice easily showed the cheeky tone she had been trying to get across to them. Really, Bert was nice enough, he just didn't seem to do well with new people coming up to him. Robyn wasn't as bothered about it as he was though. She sent the newbie a smile. "I'll keep him on his leash, don't worry."

Bert was done. He was just done with it all. Being nice was just not in him. Especially with people he didn't know. "I could have manners if I want but it really isn't worth the effort." Even though Bert was done he did laugh at the leash comment. "I hope that's a promise," Bert said with a wink. After a little while of puffing on his cigarette he decided that he was done. He threw it towards the ground and squished with his foot. "I'm Bert by the way. See I have manners." Bert smirked.
