Run It Up the Flagpole [CAIN]

Complimenting Brent was never the best thing to do since it did nothing but inflate his ego further, as well as make him like the other person more. "It's not so amazing when you end up with an inconvenient tail." he reasoned with a shrug of his shoulders. Tails weren't as fun as they first seemed... but sometimes he felt to urge to go swimming, as much as the pyromaniac in him hated it.

He was delighted by the mention of singing. Immediately, Brent replied with an unusually bright "Of course I can!" He thought that he had the voice of an angel and an excellent taste in music to go with that. Well, some of the stuff he listened too wasn't really anything he'd share with anyone (Britney, Madonna, etc). He just... had broad musical horizons?

Attention was lovely when Brent was in the mood to deal with it, which was why he didn't feel bothered by the other man's eyes on him. He was part siren, of course he was going to enjoy being admired. Another smile found its way to him, although it was really more like an amused or prideful smirk than anything else.

Cain smiled wider as he saw Brent smile. "Well, at least you won't ever drown and that swimming is second nature to you. Imagining you with a tail is a sight I would wish to see. I may not be a good swimmer but I can swim. Would you mind if I see it sometime? You can say no if you want. I'm just very interested and curious what a fire fae would look like with a tail." Cain explained with a smile.

Cain chuckled when Brent defended himself when Cain asked if he could sing. "Do you mind if listen to you sing on your free time? I have heard stories about how magnificent Sirens are when they sing. So I had always wondered how they sound." Cain explained. "I tell you, I am not asking because I am simply curious. No. I am asking because I am interested with your perfect contrast." Cains added.

"And my apologies for staring... It's just that your just really... charming... dashing..." Cain was trying to find the right words to explain how magnificent Brent was.

Brent's eyes widened when the sorcerer asked if he could see his tail. It wasn't something Brent went around showing everyone, in fact, he did his best to keep it hidden from as many people as possible. So, his instincts told him to let Cain know that he couldn't. There was a problem with that though because part of Brent wanted to say yes. The only reason for that was that it would mean he'd have a way of keeping the man's attention on him. "That would be okay." he blurted out before he could stop himself. Brent had the feeling he was going to regret this but didn't care at the moment.

His talent for singing was something that Brent didn't mind sharing with people. "Yeah, I'd like that." he smiled eagerly. Brent knew that he should probably not being agreeing to both of these offers but they were too tempting. And he loved to sing so... it didn't matter. He'd already said yes and he was determined not to change his mind.

Gosh, he didn't think Cain needed to apologise for staring. Even Brent stared at himself a lot of the time. He chuckled, looking back at his co-worker. "I understand." Yup. He understood all too well.

Cain's smile widen when Brent agreed to show him his tail. He wondered what color Brent's scales would actually be since he was half fire fae and all. Cain was in the brink of asking but it would just destroy the surprise. ]"Thank you Brent. Thank you that you accepted my strange request." Cain said as he charmed a cup of hot chocolate to appear. "Would you like one? I noticed that you were eyeing my cup of coffee like it was from some evil region." he added and smiled. He finished his coffee and magically summoned a new one.

He then turned to carefully look at Brent again, "I must compliment you on being able to be a perfect contrast of two elements. And the fact that you have skills from both races makes you more amazing that you already are." Cain complimented and remembered a complicated potion that uses siren scales, red, blue, and green siren scales. But to have those ingredients means you have to kill the siren because scaling them is like taking a human's nails off one by one without anesthesia. Cain shook off the thought of seeing Brent that way.

Now that he'd thought about it, that had been a sort of odd thing to ask for but Brent decided not to question it since Cain did seem interested in the whole contrasting elements thing, which made it more understandable. "No problem. Besides, I've had stranger." Brent wasn't going to go into that though, or even think about it... worrisome things that had been asked of him in the past.

The man smiled sheepishly. It occurred to him that his hatred for coffee must be kind of obvious. He knew that it wasn't even a living thing but he still found it utterly repulsive. On the other hand, one of the only non-alcoholic drinks Brent enjoyed was hot chocolate. He grabbed the beverage that Cain had conjured up. "Yeah, thanks."

Very few people ever told Brent he was amazing and he was glad to say that Cain had. "I guess it does." he agreed before taking a sip from his drink. The whole fire and water thing was a little tricky to deal with sometimes but the thing was that Brent could deal with it. That did make him exceptionally amazing, in his own head at least.

Cain smiled when Brent took the hot chocolate. He may not be a soul fae but he knew how to tell people by their glances, their fidgets, and the way they respond to his questions and inquiries. "There is no harm in not liking coffee. I just got used to drinking it at an early age so in some ways, I must have become addicted to its substance." Cain explained as he examined his coffee.

"Coffee isn't entirely bad. The health effects of coffee have been studied to determine how coffee drinking affects the drinkers. Coffee contains several compounds which are known to affect the body chemistry. The coffee bean itself contains chemicals which are mild psychotropics for humans as a defense mechanism of the Coffee plant. These chemicals are toxic in large doses, or even in their normal amount when consumed by many creatures which may otherwise have threatened the beans in the wild. The primary psychoactive chemical in coffee is caffeine, which acts as a stimulant." Cain suddenly turned into 'teacher mode'.

Brent didn't mean to zone out when Cain started rambling on about something boring but since it involved coffee and big words he couldn't help it. He tried to look like he was paying attention to what the sorcerer was telling him but he was basically just staring at him, wearing a completely bewildered expression. Some of that didn't even sound English. Brent's brain had processed it so it was more like one, long keysmash. "Uh... okay." Brent frowned. Why did people always know pointless things like this? The hybrid never got why anyone would bother to learn such things in the first place.

Cain knew that Brent was just staring at him like he was a lost five year old listening to a twenty-five year old man talk about the wonders of potions and their advantages. And since Cain had already decided that he was going to enjoy his day, he was going to enjoy it the whole way. And his fun was going to start... Now.

Brent didn't think it were possible but now he was more confused than before. There was more words he wasn't sure of and terms that he had no clue about. See, this was why he taught business and not something really wordy like... chemistry or physics or something like that. Business wasn't a smart people subject, that was why he was in charge of it.

His frown deepened. Was there any point to this? He opened his mouth to reply with something more than 'okay' or 'right' but found there was nothing else for him to say so shut it again.

All he needed to do was look at Brent and laugh. His face showed all the signs of someone who was totally lost and didn't know what to reply to everything Cain just said. "I guess you really didn't notice then... I was talking about chocolate just now." Cain said and laughed again. Brent looked like a perfectly lost five year old and Cain just had to laugh. It was just so adorable in a strange way that Cain just had to pat Brent's head without thinking.
