It was pretty safe to say that Felix was excited. Sure, the trip might not have been planned, but he felt like he could use a break. His birthday had recently passed, and he'd done pretty much nothing except schoolwork and crying over books. Which was a pretty lame way to spend his seventeenth birthday. Well, it wasn't according to him. But to other people? Most definitely. This could be, like, a belated birthday present. Besides, it wasn't as if anyone would really miss him. He didn't really talk to many people at all. So maybe a week out would do him good.
Psh. Maybe. It would do him good. He needed to relax a bit. New York... might not have been the place to do that, what with it being the busy city that it was. But it was one place in the world that Felix could really properly let go, stop worrying about menial things in his life. He was planning on heading home for the summer, back to Dún Laoghaire... but that would just be another depressing few weeks with his dad, more studying and then coming back in September just as... just as "meh" as he had been when he'd first arrived at Northvale Academy.
But, of course, there was no way New York City would be any fun at all if he didn't have someone with him. Enter Pandora Hearth, his friend and, apparently, travel companion. She'd lived in NYC before, so she knew where to go, what to do. She was, effectively, Felix's travel guide. Except much more talkative and interesting than one of those books that could be bought from the shops at the airport. He needed to get out, get around, because he couldn't spend his entire holiday reading. He probably would have, had he been going alone. How boring was that? ...Not very? But still! Reading was all he did lately.
He was stood just outside the terminal, with sunglasses perched on his nose and a quickly packed case. Pandora had said she was paying for the tickets, which he felt a little bad about. He had money, so he could pay for his if it came to it, but gosh! This was lovely! Now, he just had to wait for his friend to arrive. She'd sounded pretty excited about it, too, so he didn't think that she'd take very long at all. Which was good, because he was so damn excited! He couldn't wait!

He wasn't exactly an impatient boy. He'd waited for twelve whole years to actually go to New York; he'd wanted to go ever since he was a kid. He was seventeen now. This was actually his first holiday on his own. Well, not on his own - he had Pan with him. He thought that was why his dad had actually been okay with it - the fact that he had a girl going with him. The fae rolled his eyes at the thought. Parents and the crazy conclusions they jumped to. He wasn't interested in Pan in that way at all. But he wasn't about to tell his dad that and jeopardise the fact that he actually had permission to go someplace on his own.
He heard his friend before he actually saw her (not an uncommon occurrence, mind you). Before he could even react she had her arm in his and was pulling him toward the terminal. He laughed at her eagerness. "Do I look like I'm not ready or somethin'?" he said, his voice slightly teasing. Normally, he didn't like airports. Didn't like the sounds, didn't like having to talk to the people, and yeah. But it was a lot more fun when he was being dragged through one by a tall, blond girl who seemed extremely eager to get to NYC. He was eager too... but wow.
After a while, they were on the plane, settled into the comfortable seats in first class. It'd been quite pleasant, so far - for airports and flying, that is. He was kind of used to flying, but it was a different type of flying. Flying without having to use his wings would be odd, but he had a feeling he could deal with it for NYC. Because. Come on. It was NYC.
"Me either!" he said, shaking his head almost eagerly. "I think the furthest I've ever been from Ireland is the school... New York? That's a completely different ball game right there." He had to admit it: he was kind of nervous about this being his first holiday. He was excited too, though, so he nodded at the witch with a grin. "Oh yeah, definitely!" he agreed, stretching out contentedly and pulling "The Fault In Our Stars" out of his carry on. "Going somewhere new'll be great. And then you can show me good places to go!" Boy, was he excited. This was going to be the best week of his life, and he knew it.

She was comfy, settling down in the seats of first class. She chuckled a bit as Felix told her he'd only been to the Academy and Ireland. Yes. New York City was an entire different ball game. "New York's great. You'll enjoy it. And very different from the Academy. The hustle and bustle, constant movement, something always going on.. Sometimes I wonder why I left. Then I remember. I was expelled from my old school" she gave Felix a grin. Oh why did she decide to try smoking pot at the school. She was expelled in an instant. It was lucky she didn't get a criminal record.
Leaning back in the seat, she turned her head to look at Felix as he pulled a book out of his carry-on. "I'll definitely show you the great places. I know the best bars, restaurants, places to shop.. And we just have to see something on Broadway. Then there's the touristy shit. Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building.. Though you're gonna love the apartment. The view of the skyline at night is just to die for" she already couldn't wait to just go back to her room in that apartment, flop onto the Queen size bed and relax. They'd party tomorrow night. She'd need sleep after this plane journey.
A soft smile was on her lips as the plane began to move. Rumbling along the tarmac. She looked out of the window and grinned as the airport outside started to flash past. They went faster and faster until she felt the familiar jolt. They were in the air. Her ears popped slightly but she was used to it. She'd been flying many times. "Bit different from mini-form, eh?" she giggled as she looked to Felix.
But. Her mind was soon on Liam. Instantly feeling bad she hadn't said goodbye in person. And she couldn't even call him when they landed - it'd be midnight in Northvale. What if he didn't want her to go? She couldn't even check her phone now for a voicemail. Well. Maybe she'd have one when they landed. She prayed she would. She needed to make sure he at least knew she had gone. And she was going with a guy. What if he got the wrong idea?
Sighing, she tried to push the thoughts away. It'd all be okay. The witch turned to Felix once again. "Flight's gonna be about seven and a half hours. If you finish that book I'm not going to sit here and listen to you crying. I'm also not going to console you" she told him, a light, teasing tone in her voice.

Travelling wasn't really the boy's forte. And, even then, he'd never been on a plane before. He'd been to a couple of airports when going to get relatives, but he hated them. Never did he ever think that he'd actually ever get on a plane. Flying seemed scary. That thought was funny to him now, of course, but when he was younger, it'd been true. Being so high up and risking the very real possibility of falling was ridiculous. He took some comfort, though, in the fact that even if the plane fell to the ground, at least he would live. Possibly Pan, if she had some kind of levitation-y powers. If not, he'd try and pull her up, fly her to safety. Although it probably wouldn't work in his small state.
It seemed pretty damn safe, though. Something this big made out of this much metal would surely be safe. Impenetrable. At least the fourth year didn't feel like his death was imminent, like he had expected he would. Sure, he felt a little on edge, but it was nothing compared to what he thought he'd be feeling. It was actually pretty comfortable. ... Although it was different from fae form. He chuckled at that remark, and nodded. "Just a little." he concurred, shuffling a bit in order to get used to his chair. He was going to be in it for seven and a half hours, so he might as well have gotten comfy. "I mean, for one thing, I don't have to flap. And then there's the fact that I'm big."
He'd listened to his friend's rambles about New York before she'd made that comment, though, so he continued to speak. Maybe he was risking the annoyance of other people, but who cared? He had a lot to say, for pretty much the first time in his whole seventeen years of existence. This was a big moment! It may never happen again! "That sounds like so much fun!" the fae said gleefully, bobbing up and down in his chair. "You got expelled, though? What for? If you don't mind my askin'. And we have to do some of the touristy stuff too! Because we are tourists! Well, I am. I don't know. You've lived there before, right?" He bit down on his lip to keep himself from bombarding the poor girls further. This was why Felix didn't make friends, or talk that much, for that matter. Once he started, he could rarely stop.
As he opened the book on the page he'd left off on, he started to wonder if Hazel and Augustus would ever get together. It'd been seven whole chapters, for goodness' sake! They had to get together soon! Even though Hazel was a lot like him, and he knew he'd never pluck up the courage to ask a cute boy like Augustus out, come on! This was fiction. It wasn't even real. Hazel wasn't really asking him out, so why couldn't she just do it?
Just as he was about to start reading again, the girl's voice sounded again, making him laugh at loud. He was a boy. Boys didn't cry. Well, unless a wizard died or a twelve year old got speared. (Sidenote: J.K. Rowling and Suzanne Collins were Co-Satans, he swore to every God.) He was pretty sure that there were no wizards, twelve year olds or spears in this book, though, so it was all good. At least, it was so far. "I've already promised myself I'm not gonna cry," he reassured his friend. "So you're fine, anyway."
