First off, Alex wasn't scared. Scared of whatever gruelling and muscle-mushing exercises Mr. Rhodes could put him through. He was just... wary of it. The faerie had never been a fitness nut or anything that even drew close to that. Although Alex wasn't in bad shape for a teen, he knew that he could be in a much better one though. Drinkint and smoking like he did probably killed any good that came out of being at the dance hall or, y'know, sex. That was actually really good exercise, healthy and fun. Something which track definitely wasn't. Because, like, being around the vamps wasn't healthy and running wasn't fun in the slightest.
But, anyway, Alex was down here at the lanes where people could run and run to their heart's delight and not get anywhere. It was like a hamster wheel of sorts for people. It had a similar purpose, he thought.
There was an honest man! The headphones plugged into Alex's ears and his iPod tucked in the waistband of his sweats crooned with the music of The Strokes He asked me for the phone, tried to take control... The guy singing had a pretty fine voice, the fae mused as he checked the laces to his trainers, but the human's name escaped him right now. Alex had so many different things on here that he wasn't even sure what he had, let alone name all of their members.
Accompanied by the pretty upbeat tunes, Alex set off, marking a light, unhurried jog under the early morning sun. It was sunny and few clouds smeared the otherwise clear cornflower blue sky. The air had that crisp freshness typical of a cool morning but it wouldn't be long until it began to warm up and do away with the damp patches that last night's showers had left behind. By then, Alex hoped he'd be showered and wolfing down a quick sandwich before a late morning class
Alex did a lap. Then two laps and three. He was nearing his fourth and his chest was beginning to burn uncomfortably, his legs slightly tired and his breaths getting shorter. Ugh. His legs he could deal with, along with the light sweat he had shining on his forehead so long no bloodsuckers got close. But the breathlessness was a taunting reminder of his less-than-great physical condition. This was shit anyway. He didn't even like running.
Feeling close to dying after one last painful lap - his seventh - Alex yanked the headphones that were blaring another song by The Strokes out of his ears and plodded over to the stands with the energy of a lethargic sloth. "Fuck this." He muttered under what little breath he had left and grabbed his water bottle. Seriously, anyone who honestly enjoyed exercise had to be a species of masochist too. Into the slow torture stuff.
Alex's legs, chest and whole body thrummed with his pulse. He unscrewed the cap to his water and placed his money on him aching by his class. Fuck that, he wasn't going. Too tired. He could feel his muscles already pleading him to stay in the dorm. Okay, okay, muscles. The fae flopped on his back and lifted his leg up in the most half-assed and pathetic stretch he could manage.
