That lonely sound of a bouncing basketball.
He was always considered a weird one- even back home. While being a native England and never step foot in the States, Ze had a small love for the American sport. He wasn't sure. Football was fun, and it was always a nice feeling to get past the goalie and make a shot. He wasn't no pushover and wouldn't hesitate to roughhouse with people.
But...
Nothing compared to the feeling of holding the ball in his hand, the sound of it hitting the concrete and the lovely swish! of it when the basketball left his hands, going through the aged basketball hoop of the playground. It looked like it hasn't been used in ages- which was fine. There was barely anyone who used the one back in his hometown- it was mostly dominated by him, and occasional, his friends when he attempted to teach them the sport.
He wasn't sure when he started the odd love. But he knew it was love. It was obvious- to everyone, he was a nut about it but in reality, it was more of a hobby and the way he enjoyed the game. Made him feel free... though he literally could grow wing (being a fae and all but, it was different.
He felt like flying.
The sensation. The way pride swells up. He loved it.
It was nearing dusk, and Ze wasn't sure- has he been here for half an hour or two hours? Long gone his plain, blue sweatshirt- it was somewhere, on some bench in the park- and he left standing there, his breaths coming out heavy heaves and sweat made his tanned skin glisten in the dull like. Normally, you would of thought this was enough and probably time to go home.
Ze didn't want to. Not yet.
"I want to fly... can you take me far away?" He humming along to the song of 'Wings' by Macklemore. Which, he must say without bias, had a lovely chorus. The song, honestly, could of been the reason why he was messing around now. And Macklemore. That guy was cute, an amazing lyrist and... well, Mackle-freaking-more.
Your argument was invalid.
He did a crosser-over, bouncing the ball between his legs and twisting around, the sounds of the ball hitting the concrete never pausing.
This was a nice exercise- what could he say? It gotten warm enough, this spring season, and he was sure as hell going to take advantage of it. Though he... was kind cold at this point. THe fact that his sweat shirt was gone coupled with the sweat and wearing a plain, white wife-beater tee, he wasn't really prepared for the nightly winds. With his luck, probably would be sneezing and dying of a cold by morning.
But it was worth.
Ever since he came to Northvale, he forgotten, momentarily about his favorite sport. Other things, such as his new-found hobby of taking pictures and... well, his attempts at socializing? Hmph. Not too successful, since... or otherwise he wouldn't be alone on a schoolnight, messing around alone when he could be on a schoolnight messing around with friends.Plus he was packing on the pounds at this rate- he had to keep his figure up, some way. He didn't wanna die just yet.
He threw the ball for another shot, "Give me star to reach for- Tell me what it takes~" He mindlessly continued half-singing, watching the ball and expecting it to go in with such a smooth shot. It doesn't- apparently, time-to-time things like to rebel? And the ball defintely did, hitting the edge of the hoop and bouncing off it, shooting off to another direction. Great. He pulled out his head phones, turned on his heels as he glance around where his rebelling ball went off to now.

As much as I hated the darkness I was really in the mood for a walk. I'd been stuck at the school and really wanted to get out. It wasn't too dark out so I figured I would be fine. I hated the dark but at least I always had light on hand. If I got too scared I could make a light ball and make my path a bit brighter. As soon as I saw the sun setting I turned around and started walking back towards the school.
I get lost all the time. One time when I was little my dad decided to take to this big department store. They had everything. Clothes, shoes, toys, jewelry, I felt like I was in some sort of shopping heaven. Anyway, we were there on a mother's day shopping trip. We were gonna find my mum a nice present. So, here we were my dad and me in this large department store. I was supposed to keep ahold of his hand but I saw this really pretty necklace. It was all sparkly and yellow and was shaped like a sun. I couldn't resist myself. I had to get a closer look. When I turned back around to show my dad, my dad was gone. I looked everywhere eventually I gave up and sat on the floor crying. It was a couple of minutes before a nice cashier lady came up to me and asked me what was wrong. I told her what had happened and she picked me up and took me to a nice place where there was comfortable couches. She even gave me a cookie! Anyway a few minutes later my dad came and found me. I threw my arms around him and he picked my up and took me home. I didn't cry at all but I was still shaken up.
Now, I didn't tell you this story for no reason. I told you this story because I was lost at that moment. Even with my great eyesight I couldn't see the school. I wished that my powers were a little more advanced, so, that my powers were stronger. I wanted to be able to see farther. Maybe I wouldn't get lost as much.
I was trying to get to a spot where I could see the school. When I found myself at a park. It was cute. It had swings and everything a park should have. There was another person there. It was that guy that ate my cookies. I never did learn his name but he seemed nice so I figured that maybe he could help me find my way back.
"Hi there!" I noticed he was playing some game with a ball. It had gotten away from him so I picked the ball up because it had rolled toward me and I held it out to him so that he could take it. I wondered what the game was I had never seen a ball like it before. "Here's your ball!"

Nyehhh. Apparently it still wasn't acceptable to drink while he was on shift. It wasn't like he'd done it excessively. Just, like, a beer and then he was on his second mojito when he got asked to leave. Usually he drank anyway! And no one seemed to mind. But, then again, he'd only been two hours into his shift so... maybe it wasn't a good thing to be drunker than the punters by eight.
So, whatever. Alex'd packed up his few things in his dotty backpack and gladly set off home. He didn't have to be at the Gateway to get drunk; he was perfectly capable of getting smashed in his dorm. He had a few beers in the mini fridge they kept and he could always bum something else to drink off some other student. Maybe Milo. Yeah, Milo. That is, if he wasn't at the Gateway anyway.
As he walked, Alex was tapping away a text into his mobile phone to some human from the local college. It was weird talking to a human. Well. Honestly, it wasn't that different. Maybe it was the fact that he wasn't a magical being that made it strange? Alex was surrounded by all creatures magical and exotic. A human was so... normal. It was just weird to talk to one.
The fae was passing through the park when up ahead he spotted a couple of people around the basketball hoop. With his index finger, Alex slid his glasses back up his nose and squinted at them in the failing light. Almost immediately, he recognized one to be a roommate of his - Zephyr - and the other girl he'd seen around a couple of times. She was one of those mutant faerie things. Y'know the ones. The ones which were pretty much faeries a way down their bloodline but had de-evolved into whatever they were now.
What was Zephyr doing with one of those things?
Spurred on by that second mojito, he found himself wandering up to them. By the looks of it, the girl dressed in a dominating shade of vivid yellow had Ze's ball. Awww. Cute.
Alex wasn't having any of that.
"Thanks." He forced out with a saccharine sweet smile as he plucked the basketball from the girl's hands. Plucked was putting it nicely. He pretty much just snatched it from her. Ze's ball. Heh. How about Alex's ball now?

With chattering teeth, the wind picked up a bit. It wasn't overbearing, and would of been more cooling than bitter if Ze wasn't covered sweat. He shivered and his good cheer was turning a bit sour. Honestly, he would of preferred to play during the day, when there was a sure thing that the sun wouldn't set on him...
But he'll shouldered through. If he can survive from that ass-freezing winters, this should be a shrug of the shoulders.
Though... he will still bitch to himself for the stupid decision of losing his sweatshirt. Wiping his brow with the end of his wifebeater tee, Ze slowed his breath. At least it was a lovely night? The sky wasn't horribly cloudy and looked like it'll be a clear night. Such a funny thing tha--
"Huh?" He jumped. God, what was it with this place and people being like... everywhere? Not that he was antisocial- he just was annoyed by the fact people seemed to show up, when he at least expected it. Gah. Well, at least she was nice enough to catch his ball before it rolled off into oblivion?
"Oh! Uh... your that one girl." Ze said, giving her a once-over. Hm, pretty girl, she was. Who had seemly fawn of yellow...? There wasn't much else he could say.
Hm, what was her name again? Did she even give him her name yesterday? He wasn't even sure. This was embarrassing. "Thanks for grabbing it, anyways. I'm... Alex?"
Well, at least it was a more familiar face. His Faerie friend, who rudely snatched the ball away from... uh, Cookie-giving-girl-that-he-doesn't-know-the-name-of. He was, despite this, happy to see the smaller roommate- at least now, he has someone to walk back to the dorms rather than... well, y'know. Go alone.
In the dark.
In a town with vampires were predominant.
He rest his case.
A small frown played on his lips and the fire fae took a step in Alex's direction, "Uh... Alex, hey. What'cha doing out so late? And gimme the ball." Holding hands up as if to catch, Ze had a feeling...
I swear, if even thinks he running...
This better not be a repeat with the camera.

The guy was kinda cute. I mean he looked nice. He was tall. I always liked tall guys. Not to say I "liked" him. I didn't even know him. The only person I kind of actually maybe, kind of liked, was Silver, but he was a teacher and really old. So I didn't really "like" him. I really didn't know anyone at Northvale so it wasn't like I could really "like" anyone. Not in the crush sort of sense. Well, I could still crush on guys that I didn't know. Not that I did. I really only liked guys I knew.
"My name's Aine... (pronounced Awn-ye) it's the name of an Irish goddess of wealth and stuff. My parents are Irish."
I was stuck in my thoughts and my talking till someone took the ball out of my hands. I turned to see the little thief. My arms immediately crossed my chest and my face into a pout.
[/color] "I was going to give that back to him!" The tall guy said his name was Alex but I didn't think that could be right because he was yelling it at the guy who took the ball and I thought his name was Alex.
I could feel the dark closing in. I didn't like the dark being a light borea. Why'd I have to go out so late? Why did I have to get myself lost? At least I was two other people but still I just didn't like the dark. I considered using my powers but it was still light enough to see."D-do either of you guys know how to get back to castle? 'Cause I got lost for the 500th time and, well, it's starting to get too dark out for me to see very far." I was getting lost far to often these days. It wasn't really her fault. Northvale was a large place and I was a small person as much as I didn't want to admit it.

Alex rolled the large ball in his hands, its bumpy skin feeling rubbery and odd under his hands. This was the first time in a while that he'd held a basketball. It was surprisingly light and made a bit of a hollow noise when he drummed his fingertips against it. Oh. Wait. That girl was talking to him. "Excuse me?" He drawled, giving her a bored look. Aether, her voice alone irritated him. She was lost? "Aww, didums. Y'shoulda thought about that one b'fore goin' out, shouldn't you, chica?"
Alex wasn't about to help a Boreai, a race that shouldn't even exist. Maybe she'd find a nice vampire to help her home. Hehe. Or maybe he should point her in the wrong direction? Ooh. That sounded like a good idea.
"On m'way home from work." Alex shrugged, not tossing Ze the ball back although his hands were visibly waiting for it. "Apparently m'too drunk to take m'shift." He made a small scoff noise. He was far from drunk; he was just tipsy! He'd trawled through a shift in much worse states than he was right now. Why, just last week he'd turned up hungover and remedied it with drink and no one had said anything.
How did this thing go again? You just... bounced it right? Alex looked down at the ball in his hands and dropped it, catching it as it bounced against the concrete and back into his hands. "Heh." Yeah. This ball was his. He liked it. "Y'want it?" He looked up at Ze, a slender eyebrow raised. "Come get it~"
And with that Alex turned on his heel and bolted. He was usually quite a swift runner when he was, y'know, sober and not hindered by the rucksack slung on his back. But right now that wasn't the case. He sprinted slower than usual, snickering as he went.

His eyes darted from Alex for a second, glancing at the Cookie girl... well, Aine. Aine from Ireland. While Ze wasn't sure how exactly that bit of the information was exactly revelant to the conversation but he wasn't the rude type to point that. He gave her a small smile, "Aine- I'll make sure to remember that. The name's Zephyr... er, Ze works just fine though."
Now that he caught his breath, he could feel a small strain in his legs- well, stupid idea to play on his part? He didn't he wasn't the type to exercise daily or weekly, so his body wasn't prepared for the extended time spent playing b-ball and... ugh. He was going to be sore in the morning.
And not the good kind.
Ze was about answer Aine, about to point out the right direction and all but... well, Alex beat him to the punch? Not in a nice way either. He raised an eyebrow, a bit surprise... then again, his roommate was the teasing sort and looked a bit tipsy. But he got the vibe... he was being like this purposefully.... Meh. Either way, he just wanted his ball back. "Well... er, I think shouldn't be too far from here." He shrugged, the stubble on his chin feeling prickly as he rubbed it in thought. Honestly, he knew the general direction but... he was horrible with giving directions. "I think it should be north-ish from this point? I mean, if you head north from here, and pass the local cinema down the road over there, eventually you'll spot the towers and the school." He gestured toward the park's main exit, before giving a small sheepish shrug. While he still wanted to play just a tiny bit more, and of course, he still needed find his hoodie.... should he help her out?
Ze eyes flickered back to Alex, as his small, awkward frown twisted into a more amused grin. Now that he noticed, the glasses-clad Alex did seem a bit tipsy side; how cute. "Is that so?" He teased, "Well, I can see his point~ You do look a bit-- HEY! My ball!" His teasing turned into a surprised yelp as Alex dashed off- he knew it! Called it, seriously he did.
Ze sighed, giving Aine an apologetic glance, "Uh, wait a moment, okay?" He dashed after the air fae- who was considerably slower than usual. Well, at least, this time he wasn't going to get away. He made sure of it.

The boy, Alex, was drunk? I don't like people that drink. I never have plus with what happened with my dad... Then again he wasn't driving. He wasn't planning on driving. Still... "Thanks Ze... I'll just... wait here..." I said ignoring Alex. If he was drunk he wasn't really a person I wanted to associate myself with then and he stole the ball that I was going to give back to Ze.
I decided to wait. Well, Ze told me to so I did. I waited and watched as he ran after the boy, Alex. I wondered how the two boys knew each other. Maybe they were roommates or something like that.
The darkness kept closing in and even I knew the boys were near I got scared. I didn't know if there were some creepers at the park waiting for a little girl to show up. Plus, I couldn't put up too much of a fight. I didn't have any real useful powers when in came to fighting. I could feel myself fading slightly as I was thinking. I couldn't become invisible yet, but it wasn't like I could be seen to well in the dark. Then I thought that wasn't a great idea because what if Ze came back and I was all invisible-ish and he couldn't see me. I made myself more opaque and decided to create a light ball instead so that I could see a little better. Not that it was that dark I just felt like it was too dark for me.

Ahahahaha. This had been such a good idea. He'd managed to snag himself a pretty neat-looking basketball - whether he played or not didn't matter - and he'd done Ze the awesome favour of getting him away from that Boreai thing. Honestly, it was all pros! "Come an' get it~" Alex sang as he sped away, heading for the gate with his bag bouncing and clunking about noisily on his back.
Yeah but, okay, there was one thing that Alex hadn't counted on and that was his own terrible balance. It wasn't so bad as he ran in a straight line down the pitch - just the odd wobble here and there - but problems appeared when he took the tight corner to bolt through the gate...
Alex's almost manic, gleeful grin faltered and disappeared into a clear expression of the surprise you get when realize that you're about to have a run.in with gravity. As he turned his spindly jean-clad legs obeyed whereas his slim upper body succumbed to beautiful inertia. It was a case of 'legs going this-a-way, body going that-a-way' and - with a silent gasp on his lips - Alex went tumbling down, down, down onto his side. Not once did his hands let go of his precious basketball thought in a bid to soften his fall so, instead, the small fae bounced against the tarmac and skidded to a stop. Ouch.
The corners of his mouth turned downwards and his eyes were tightly scrunched closed; his hip and arm throbbrd from taking the brunt of his stupid fall and his forearm stung incredibly. Without a doubt he'd gotten himself a pretty graze there. It hurt, that was a given, but not as much as it should seeing as he had a bit of a numbing blanket of alcohol smothering him. Slowly opening his eyes, Alex turned his head to look back at his pursuer.
Nope. Ze still wasn't getting this ball.
Feeling a bit silly and feeling a bit achy, Alex grinned despite himself, recovering the glint of mischief in his caramel eyes. The teen rolled over onto his back, a single, tiny blob of blood beginning to ooze from his graze, and he threw the orange ball up into the air. The thing was though that the ball didn't come back down. "Leches! Would y'lookie that?" Alex sniggered as he pointed up at the ball.
Sure enough, it was up in the air, being pushed back up before it drew too close to the ground by short, precise gusts of air conjured by a certain faerie lay snickering on the floor.

Of freakin' course, tipsy or not, Alex still lighter on his feet and give him a break. He was worn out already, so chasing a giggling Airhead wasn't a walk in a park. Definitely not a walk in a park. Hell he was going to let another thing of his to be snatched... again. There was a small annoyance pricking at him because of this reason... but, it was all in good ole' teasing. As much as the air faerie reminded of some schoolyard bully, with all this snatching, he couldn't really be that mad.
And there was always the prospect of revenge. Sweet revenge.
But it seems like the creature of grace wasn't all that graceful tonight. He slowed down his half-run/half-jogging, surprise by the nasty stumble he took. Ooh, I don't think bouncing is a good sign. Even looking at the fall was worthy of a sympathy wince. He would call Karma on it but... it wasn't the right moment to call it.
Well, shit. He was bleeding? No matter the size, that graze did look a bit nasty and.. coupled with the fall, how the hell was Alex giggling? And playing games. "What the hell? Alex... airhead..." He didn't know what to fuss over first- the cut or the fact Alex was making his ball hover just out of reach to grab. God damn it.
"C'mon, don't do this. Get up, and stop messing with my ball." He huffed out, jumping up for his ball but his fingers barely grazing the smooth, orange side. So, instead, he directed a glare the brunette's way and sighed, "Alex, take a look of your arm. Your bleeding." He ran his hand through his hair, the brown curls a bit dampen because of the sweat, "Put the ball down, now! Before you start bleeding all over the place like some girl!" Okay, he was exaggerating, but he'll doubt the giggling mess of the tipsy fae would listen to reason.
More 'specifically, his reason.
