So everything was in order. Everything that he was planning on bringing to France-- basically money and more money-- was already in the car (his car, which he'd named Oberon). And now all that he was doing was, well, waiting for Alex to appear with his stuff, and then they'd go.
Perhaps it was a little rude of him to be just escaping from everything like that without even telling anyone in advance, but frankly, he wasn't really even up for something as simple like that. He had thought about leaving a letter but decided aginst it eventually, thinking that she'd probably figure it out herself soon enough. And, well, it wasn't even like he'd seen Aria too often of late.
This impromptu trip with Alex was going to be... a break. From everything, he supposed, ranging from Aria's coldness (what happened to their old relationship? They used to be so much closer!) to Pandora and Liam's sudden relationship (bloody hell). And was it really his fault that he found it all too much-- that he was beginning to wonder if anyone would even notice if he just up and left?
... probably not. In fact, the only one who would probably even notice would be that creepy professor Roderick, who seemed frighteningly obsessed with him. And, well, in Tobias' opinion, missing a week's worth of classes wouldn't really matter. He was a fast learner, and it wasn't like they were teaching anything he didn't already know-- plus, he needed this.
He probbaly wouldn't be able to survive without it.

France. Alex had never been there before despite it being right next door to his native country. More than one would probably deem his impromtu decision to run to France with a boy he honestly barely knew as reckless but whatever. Their opinions didn't matter. Everyone else seemed so caught up in their own things that it wasn't like he'd be missed too sorely.
The fae had called up work and said that he was sick, that he wasn't going to be in for a few days, that he left the bar keys behind on his last shift anyway. Little did his boss know was that the faerie had no actual.intention of returning to work. Pan would manage without him and, like, he was pissed off with her anyway. Pfft. Telling him to back off Liam like that. Hell, she knew what the deal was between those two! The grump.
"Holaa~" Alex chimed as he bounced over to where Toby waited for him in the car park, his tummy buzzing and fluttering with excitement for their spontaneous plan go shake up their everday routine. Yawn. "I keep y'long? Couldn't find my passport." He flashed the small book before sliding it back into the satchel he carried. He'd just been through an hour of hell... choosing what to bring and what to leave. Torture. Complete and utter torture. He threw his surprisinglh small bag of belongings in the back and stood with his hands on his hips, peering at his handsome company through his violet tinted shades. "M'ready t'ditch this joint. You?"

Upon seeing Alex appear at the carpark, Tobias gave him a little wave. "You sure took your time," he commented, amused at Alex's bouncing and buzzing and general happiness. "I've been waiting here for 15 minutes already." The violet-tinted shades and bitchy stance of his companion made it almost worth the wait, though. Alex was going to be the best companion on this trip ever, especially since they didn't really know one another but shared a healthy relationship of bitching and snark.
Giving a little mock-bow, Tobias held out the passenger door for Alex. "Ready if you are, princess," he told him, waiting for Alex to get in before heading over to the other side and sliding into the driver's seat. "Or, well, even if you aren't," he told Alex, buckling the seatbelt for Alex (he wasn't going to be responsible for any injuries that Alex might get from his own stupidity) and then buckling himself up.
Tobias wanted to get out of the place as quickly as he could, and since he had his passport, money, food in the backseat, Obie and his surprisingly dashing companion, there wasn't much stopping him anymore. "Last chance for a toilet break, we're not stopping until we reach an acceptable distance from this hellhole," he told Alex, putting on his own pair of shades (normal, sensible shades, not silly violet ones although those were so Alex) and stepping on the gas. "No need? I thought so."
Driving off, he grinned at Alex before looking back to the road, fiddling a bit with the radio until he got to an acceptable station. This was going to be interesting, at least.

"Yeah, yeah, but I'm here now, ain't I?" Alex sighed, waving off his tardiness with his hand. It'd only been fifteen minutes and, like, at least he'd turned up? He could've always pulled the ultimate jerk move and stood Tobias up. Which he didn't do. So he should be grateful for that. Alex was a handful of things - not all of then good - and a jerk wasn't one of them. At least... he didn't think it was.
"Aren't you jus' the little gentleman?" The fae said with a tone that really suggested that he wasn't all that impressed. All this 'princess' stuff had to end at some point. Although, the faerie would be lying if he said that he didn't like this kind of attention. Like when Toby clicked his seat belt in; Alex rolled his eyes and muttered something along the lines of not being a kid but, secretly, he found it kind of sweet. Alex wound down the window and let the warm spring breeze fill the car, carrying with it the faint yet noticeable scent of the flowerbeds nearby. This was his favourite bit of any car ride: travelliing with the window down and letting the wind sail freely in.
"Let's just go already, peanut." Alex huffed with a bitr of impatience. "Before some idiot teach tries draggin' my ass to class or somethin'" There's be no stupid classes in France, thank fuck. It was gonna be a shame though that he was going to miss out on spying on Liam's classes but, y'know... the prospect of somr exotic, French fae was too tempting. Like, what if he found his very own Samson? Mm-hmm. Alex was excited.
He watched idly as Toby fiddled about with the radio. "Y'know... I could always jus' plug in my Ipod instead of listenin' to this crap." He said, wrinkling his nose at man crooning away through the car's speakers. "Y'got the good station right?" Good station or not, he wasn't in the mood for this. He randomly wanted Bon Jovi because nothing beat an old classic when you started a road trip.

Okay, so maybe getting Rapunzel to come along for the road trip wasn't such a good idea. He was kind of stupid. Maybe he should have gone by himself after all, but he realised that it would be painfully boring. "I'm goin', I'm goin'," he told Alex with a hint of impatience. "And it's not like anyone could really stop us if we truly wanted to leave. We are the most powerful students around, you know."
And it wasn't false; Tobias was (definitely) the most powerful sorcerer around, and Alex was, what, a level 35 fae? They were more powerful than some of the teachers. In fact, the only teachers who might give a shit and would be able to stop them were-- well. Liam. And...
Liam. Who he really didn't want to think about, what with Liam and Pandora getting together and all that crap. The annoying voice blasting through the car speakers snapped him out of his little mental angst party. And it probably wasn't a good idea to throw a little mental angst party when he was driving, anyway. "And yeah, plug your iPod in, whatever," he told Alex. "This is supposed to be the good station, but it doesn't seem very good right now."

Hmm. Tobias had a point there. They were a couple of the strongest students that Northvale had to offer, they were even stronger than a great deal of adults. But it wasn't like Alex openly flaunted his advanced abilities like Toby did. He gave the odd shove here and there with air but never much more than that. Unless he was angry. Then he was like a tornado and didn't care what got in his path. "Fair 'nuff. Can't argue with you there." Because they would be totally capable of shoving a poxy teacher out of the way together. Alex reached behind his seat and groped around blindly for the satchel he'd tossed back there before. He yanked it open and snatched his iPod which he promptly plugged in and set to 'shuffle'. Alex had a bit of everything on this thing.
"There. Mucho mejor." Alex sighed, sinking back into his seat and reclining it a couple of inches as the opening to Living On A Prayer sounded through the speakers. The fae watched how the school grew further away in the mirror on his side and sighed at the elated feeling that bubbled in his stomach. He watched it quietly until it was gone.
And then he rolled his head over to look at Toby with a bright grin. "Who woulda thought that me an' you would hit the road together." He chuckled while stretching his hands behind his headrest and gripping it. "I wasn't all that serious when I suggests it. But seems like you're a pretty cool guy after all, peanut."

Well, at least Alex knew one thing-- at the very least, his music was reasonably good (even if nothing else was). When Living On A Prayer started blasting, Tobias felt his lips twist into a small smile and he started tapping his fingers on the steering wheel to the rhythm. "Hn, yeah, that is better," he commented, letting himself get lost in the music and driving for a while. Out of the corner of his eye, he watched Alex look at the school (which honestly looked like it was shrinking as they got further and further away), as they drove off through the side mirror.
It felt really good to be far away from school. It wasn't like normal school wasn't bad enough, but a boarding school just made everything even worse. Especially since he'd fought in the war when he was 16, travelled the world, killed annoying people... well. School life was a bit too monotonous and a bit too serious for his tastes (yes, both at the same time).
Upon hearing Alex's comment about the two of them hitting the road together, Tobias let himself laugh a little in response. "Well, not me, certainly," he told Alex. "But this... it's good, I think. I needed a break. Can tell that you did, too."
He actually shot Alex a grin when Alex told him that he was "pretty cool". The entire 'peanut' thing was... un-understandable, but whatever. "Yeah, I know I am," he told Alex. "I guess you're pretty cool, too, if you're actually willing to just screw school and go on an impromptu trip to France with me." And insane, he mentally added, but didn't say aloud. What? If it weren't for the circumstances that Tobias had found himself in, he would never have agreed. But then again, it wasn't that Tobias wasn't happy about Alex's (perhaps temporary) insanity.
As Northvale got further and further away until it was nothing more than a blurry dot in the background, Tobias felt like he was shedding all his burdens and leaving them all behind at the school. He hadn't felt this way since the war, and while he hadn't been particularly fond of the constant terror, what he'd had at Northvale was possibly even worse. Being able to get away without the blood or fear was... it had been unimaginable until he actually heard Alex suggest going on an impromptu road trip, and while he had been initially unsure, Tobias now knew that he needed it. For the first time in forever, he was finally free.

Peanut seemed as though he was all grins and chuckles today. It made a pleasant change from the usual moody pout he normally saw him wearing in the academy's corridor though. Alex returned the smile with a cheery one of his own whist prodding himself in the chest with his thumb. "S'cause I am cool, nena." He said with all confidence. "That school is such a fuckin' bore. And the people in it too. Well... most of 'em anyway. There's a handful that're good though." Not Pan though. She was cool until she randomly got all snippy and ugh. Alex was still sore over her telling him off for holding onto Liam's arm because, like, he always did that and she knew it! Maybe it was that time of month for her or something.
"Always wanted to go to France. Sure, I got a lotta time ahead of me but, pfft, who are we kiddin'? I ain't gonna live to see my full two milennia." A bit of a morbid thing for him to say but it was true enough for him that the fae chuckled. Two thousand years was waaaay too long. He'd probably die in some sort of stupid accident and, like, he didn't wanna get all wrinkled and old anyway.
"S'gonna be weird, y'know... hidin' our powers for a little bit. Wanna place bets on who fucks up first?" The fae wriggled his toes out of his shoes and brought his feet up onto the seat, they were clad in an eye-catching cornflower blue. "I bet y'lose your rag with someone and y'try to hex their ass." It seemed like the most likely scenario. That or Alex forgetting that they weren't in Northvale and shrinking down to his diminute faerie form and being spotted. Yeah, someone was gonna cock up at some point. He could feel it in his bones. "How long is the ride to France anyway? And we headin' for the North or South?"

Tobias snorted when Rapunzel told him that he was cool (with confidence, which just made it even better). "Yeah, sure, think what you want, Rapunzel," he said offhandedly. "You're only cool in this particular scenario. I haven't figured out if you'd be cool in other scenarios yet," he said, tapping his fingers on the steering wheel.
Then Rapunzel started talking about how everyone in the school was a 'fuckin' bore' and Tobias found himself inclined to agree. "Yeah, that I'll agree with," he told Alex, snorting. "Hardly anyone there worth spending time with, and if they are, they end up abandoning you for one of your brothers." he told Alex. What? He was still really pissed off about the Liadora thing, and while he wouldn't outright tell Alex about it, he was allowed to indirectly bitch about it. Nothing was stopping him from doing that.
In fact, there wasn't even anything stopping him from telling Alex outright other than his stupid conscience. He knew that Liam would get fired if anyone found out about his and Panny's relationship, though, so... oh well. Plus, he didn't even know if Alex would decide to be a little gossip queen or not.
"I never understood why anyone would want to live that long," he told Alex. "Honestly, I wouldn't want to see myself get all wrinkled and shit. Plus, I'm much more likely to end up killing myself in a fight or something." Tobias got himself in waaaay too many fights. Fighting was fun, but sooner or later he'd find himself up against someone he wouldn't be able to beat but didn't have any interest in letting him stay alive-- and then the world would just go to shit.
Then Rapunzel started talking about hiding their powers. Seriously? "We could always go to the magic towns," he told Alex. "We don't actually need to hide our powers all the time, and you wouldn't believe what those magic towns have-- the stuff you can buy there is so much better than what you can buy in normal towns. I think the clothesmakers charm their clothes to feel amazing or something." Which should probably make Rapunzel completely determined to go to a magic town already, based on what he heard from Panny. "But it really depends on where you want to go. And I'm not gonna get into any fights on this trip, don't be an idiot. I'm already gonna end up fighting with you 90% of the time." Anyway, this trip is supposed to be a break. Tobias could fight in Northvale, he didn't need to go overseas to do it-- if someone truly pissed him off on this trip, he'd probably just hex their ass and pretend someone else did it.
"Well, it depends on where you want to go," he told Alex. "I was thinking either Paris or Nice? Those have the biggest magic towns. The trip to Paris'll probably take about 5 hours, but the trip to Nice'll take about 12. Or we could go anywhere else if you want, I'm okay with anything."

Aaaand Alex was going to act like he never heard that comment. Because, like, what did Tobias know about being cool? He was the one who would probably pick fights with half of the student body if they gave him even the slightest reason to. And that wasn't cool. In Alex's book it was quite the opposite. Alex opted to just roll his eyes quietly at the guy while he wasn't looking as he stared out at the bushes and trees that whizzed past his window in a rushed, violet-tinted blur. Alex could totally do cool.
"But, awh, Peanut," the fae cooed. "We ain't gonna fight that much..." They were. They totally were and Alex knew it. Their personalities didn't exactly mix too well and Alex was no stranger to pointless bickering for the sake of saying something. But, like, hopefully Toby wouldn't get physical? That guy knew a deadly amount of hexes from what he'd gathered... Alex really didn't want or need a first-hand experience on the receiving end of them.
Alex's interest - wandering and easily diverted - picked up on something that caught his attention. Something about one of Toby's brothers? The curious faerie twisted back around in his seat with his eyebrows neatly knitted together on his forehead. "Y'talkin' about Andy and Cain?" Alex asked, assuming that was what his troubled partner in crime was referring to. "I din't think you and he was ever friends." At least, the last time he checked they weren't. His last visit to the common room had seen Tobias throwing all sorts of gruesome hexes at the other wizard but perhaps that has been after he'd found out about his brother's less than appropriate relationship with one of his students. To be truthful, the air faerie wasn't really clued up on the latest happenings at Northvale. Shock horror.
Maybe Toby could fill him in a bit though and get him a bit more up to date? After all, it was going to be a long drive to France and wherever they were headed.
At the mention of shops though, Alex's simple mind was made up. "Fine. A magic settlement it is then." Alex said with an expected smile inching its way across his rose lips. What? He'd literally brought with him just one single outfit. He needed to be somewhere that offered for certain decent clothes! This faerie would rather try his luck naked rather than wear any old rags. "And I wanna go to Nice... tha's the place with the beach, right?" Sun, sand, beer and men in tiny trunks. He didn't need anything more than that. And he was willing to endure a marathon of a car drive to get it, just a passenger or not.
