Stars. They were beautiful things, so the sorceress found as she squinted up at the night sky. She was perched on the railing that surrounded the tower and kept students safe from a certain, grisly death. Well, actually, it wasn't very safe if a student such as she could manage to get up and sit on it. She would have to tell someone about that. Just for keeping everybody else safe. She didn't want the school to have any problems; as much as she hated to admit it, she actually liked Northvale and all it had done for her (for the week that she'd been here, anyway). It'd gotten her away from the boredom that home held.
Well, not really. But it had gotten her away to some extent. Sure, there were still the holidays to contend with; the obliviousness on her father's face, the now obvious dislike that he had for her. The truth was, he wasn't her father. And he never would be, unless he sorted himself out. She just didn't respect him, or love him, at all. If he couldn't show her any form of affection and interest, then how could he expect her to love and respect him? It sparked the witch's curiosity, and it'd become something she was determined to find out.
But not right now. For now, she would go through Northvale just as any student (well, okay, maybe a little bit more fun than the average student), try to pass her exams (maybe), and do something with herself. She could find out more about her father's petty grudge against her whenever she wanted; it was all just a few questions away. And, despite the fact that, deep down, she loved her father (again, maybe) she couldn't wait to see the look on his face when he discovered that his 'daughter' knew more about him than he would probably have thought. He thought she was a complete dunce, and she was out to prove him wrong.
Just then, a noise stirred her from her thoughts. She couldn't place the noise exactly. Maybe it was the creak of a floorboard, the click of a heel as it hit the floor... but it was most definitely a noise. And noises meant people. Her head snapped toward the source of the noise, a wide grin spreading over her features and her silvery eyes shining with delight. She jumped gracefully from the railing, and opened the door to the roof, peeping into the dimly lit stairwell. "Hello?" she called out loudly, so that there was not any fear of her not being heard. "Anyone there?"
