With midterms over and done with, Ackley felt like a huge weight had been lifted off of his chest. He'd been buried in text books and study guides for the past week, so stressed he'd spent most of the time in wolf form. Needless to say, he hadn't had much opportunity to see his boyfriend.
He'd saved up enough money to buy himself some new shoes, so he decided he might as well take Mack to the mall with him and make a date of it. Shoes were the only thing Ackley bought new (well, other than underwear, 'cause gross) and that was only because he could never find shoes big enough for his ridiculous feet. The ones he'd been wearing had holes worn in the toes and the tread was starting to fall off.
When they got to the mall, Ackley shoved his hands in his pockets and shuffled around anxiously while he waited for Mack to catch up. He glanced over his shoulder and offered his boyfriend a sheepish smile. "I haven't been here before. You have, right?"
It still made him a little embarrassed, the whole money thing. Mack's family had plenty of money, so he was always trying to pay for things, which was really nice. But Ackley's dad had always drilled into his head that he shouldn't take charity if he could get by without it. He reached out one long arm and caught Mack's hand in his own, squeezing their fingers together.

Mack hadn't seen Ackley in... forever. Way too long for his liking because hello. He was a man. And a man that liked a lot of sex at that. Sure he occasionally saw him, but it wasn't long enough or anything. Needless to say, when Ackley invited him out to the mall, he didn't even question saying yes to him. Mack didn't think he could even say no to the lovable oaf.
He smiled at Ackley when he made sure he had been to the mall before. Yeah, Ackley had been to the mall quite often actually. He liked going to it and walking around and shit. He gave his tall boyfriend a smile and squeezed his hand when he grabbed his. "Yeah. 'Course. Shoes are this way." Mack said as he pulled Ackley in the right direction with a smile on his face. He was somehow going to pay for those shoes whether Ackley liked it or not.

Letting himself be tugged along into the mall, Ackley allowed himself the opportunity to hang back and check his boyfriend out a little. Hey, he was allowed! And Mack was just about the cutest guy ever, if he had anything to say about it. Once he'd ogled his fill, he caught up with two long strides. Normally, he shuffled around with other people, otherwise his long legs would have him doing laps around other people.
"I, um, I was gonna call ahead," he told Mack. "But that-that sounded...scary. S-so I dunno if they'll h-have my size or not." He really hoped he wasn't dragging his boyfriend all the way here just to be told to check the boat depot if he needed something his canoe-sized feet could fit into. He should have called ahead. He'd gotten the number and everything, but panicked at the last second, afraid he'd say something stupid.
Someday he'd learn how to make a simple freaking phone call. Today was not that day.

Mack loved Ackley. It was kind of just simple like that. He didn't think he would ever love anyone... but he loved Ackley. That meant he loved how socially awkward he was. Mack gave him a warm smile and leaned up to give him a kiss on the cheek.
"It's okay. We'll go in and ask and see if they do or not. Don't worry. I'll talk. You just look cute." Mack told him with a smile before he walked into the store. He didn't care if they didn't have his shoe size. He still wanted to spend the day put with his boyfriend.

Mack had a terrible habit of making Ackley blush, like, all the time. This was one of them. Look cute? Ackley crinkled his nose and stuck his tongue out in protest. He sidled up behind Mack, looming over him, and wrapped his skinny arms around his boyfriend, rested his chin on the top of Mack's head, and leaned into him, making it intentionally difficult for Mack to walk.
"I'm too big to be c-cute, Mack," he insisted playfully. "I-I'm thinking of renting out space o-on my head a-as a cell phone tower." As soon as they neared the shoe store, though, he pulled back, not wanting the people that worked there to think he was a weirdo. Even if he was.

Too big to be cute? Mack didn't believe that because Ackley was the epitome of cute. The more pressing problem at the moment was the fact Ackley was making it impossible for him to be able to move. Yes. That was more important. "Shut up. You're adorable and only a little on the tall side. Now let me mooooveee."
Mack whined halfheartedly. He loved when Ackley did things like this with him, because Mack knew he was too shy to do it with anyone else. Mack was glad Ackley opened up to him. "I won't kiss you for like... a full minute if you don't let me go." [/blockquote] Outfit ------------------------ ClickyNotes ------------------------ --- Tagged ------------------------ Ackleyyyyy Song ------------------------ Heart of a Girl – Killers

Debating Mack's threat for a moment, Ackley finally released him and caught a kiss as he disentangled his arms from around his boyfriend. "Fine, fine, you're no fun," he teased. His hand slid into Mack's as they entered the shoe store. A clerk had been stacking boxes near the entrance when he saw the two of them enter. He looked one over and then the other, eyes landing on Ackley's ratty sneakers.
He looked over his shoulder at a woman near the back of the store. "Rhonda! Pull out the fourteeners!" He glanced Ackley again. "Maybe some fifteens, too." The woman laughed and disappeared into the back of the store, leaving Ackley blushing inside the entrance.

Mack just laughed at his boyfriend when he told him he was no fun. Mack knew that was basically the opposite of what he really was. Mack loved to have fun. But there were times and places. Mack didn't fully think this was the right place. Not that he cared really. When they walked in, and the clerks automatically knew Ackley was going to need some special shoes, Mack figured that his boyfriend would probably be embarrassed by it. Ackley was embarrassed by almost everything. "Well at least you know they have you shoe size?"
Mack asked, giving his hand a squeeze in the process. [/blockquote] Outfit ------------------------ ClickyNotes ------------------------ --- Tagged ------------------------ Ackleyyyyy Song ------------------------ Heart of a Girl – Killers

Still flushing bright red, Ackley shrugged and made his way into the store. The selection for his size was limited, but it wasn't like he was picky when it came to fashion. "Rhonda" brought out a stack of boxes and chatted - mostly with Mack - while they worked their way through them. She'd given up on speaking to Ackley after the first few times he blushed and stammered his way through half-replies.
In the end, he picked a plain pair of sneakers with rubber over the toes so he wouldn't wear through them like the last pair. He didn't need anything fancy, he assured them. He'd just grow out of them. They also happened to be on sale, so there was that, too. He decided to wear them out of the store, happy to be rid of his ragged old ones, and shuffled over to the counter.

Mack sat quietly throughout the whole trying on thing. He watched Ackley with a smile almost the entire time. Laughing when appropriate and not really doing much else. He ended up wandering at some point, only to end up picking himself out a pair of black converse with skulls on them. He liked them. When he saw Ackley walking up to the counter, he realized he hadn't thought of a way to pay for Ackley's shoes.
He jogged up to the counter quickly, beating Ackley by a step or two before snatching his box out of his hands for the clerk to get the price and put it on the counter along with his own pair he picked out. He kicked backwards toward Ackley, pushing him away as he grabbed his credit card and gave it to the clerk to hurry and check him out.
