Trouble's Gonna Lose Me [Houston]

At first, Emmanuel had been a bit uncertain about his boyfriend working at the same place as him. Would it put too much pressure on their relationship too early? Would he end up pushing his presence when it wasn't welcome? Would he feel crowded if Houston was around so often? But, as it turned out, it was actually rather nice.

They weren't together for most of the day, of course, what with Houston shuffling papers in the office and Em wiping finger paints off of little faces. At lunch and while the kids ran around at recess, though, he got to take his bagged lunch into his boyfriend's office, and they talked as they worked their way through apples and sandwiches. Sometimes they even went out for a quick meal at Saturday's. It was nice.

After school was out, the kids stampeded out the front doors to meet their parents, and Em stayed behind in his classroom to straighten everything up. It took a bit longer for him than it did for other teachers - the fifth grade teacher could usually stroll right out with the kids. The only one who had it worse was the art teacher and the kindergarten teacher. Houston would usually show up when he was just done cleaning.

That day, though, he had a bigger mess than usual on his hands. They'd made Oobleck as a science experiment that day, after reading the Dr. Seuss book about it. The kids were really into it, and it had been fun, but in the aftermath, Em was slowly realizing that the entire room was covered in cornstarch, food coloring, and goo. He grimaced as he started on wiping down the desks, scooping stray bits of Oobleck into a trash bin. He had blue food coloring stains on his hands and a small smear on his cheek, too. One of the desks was so bad, he just held out a hand and blasted it with water, hoping none of the papers inside would be damaged.

Once a year. Either I visit him or my parents and him come to visit, once a year. Always at the same time, unless it’s my turn to visit. Then it depended on my work schedule. But I always made sure to see him. This year it was his turn along with my parents to come and visit.

His name is Isaiah, he’s 15 years old, and he’s my son. A son I didn’t forget to tell the person I’m dating I just chose not to tell him till the time was right. Well, the time was right and I really didn’t have any other choice. Well, I did have another choice I just figured it would be better if I told him now rather than him come over to find my family sitting on my couch. ”Uhhh hey, Em?” I said walking into his classroom. ”You, uh, look like you need some help.” My little announcement could wait a while.
