It was kind of geting a little bit awkward, now. Hah. Getting. A little bit. It'd started off awkwardly, and kind of gotten worse as the poor excuse for a conversation progressed. Felix really despised talking to people; it was the worst thing in the world. He much prefered the quiet; being left alone to is own thoughts was really quite satisfying, in a way. Felix's mind was his space, somewhere only he knew and could go to. On second thought, maybe that wasn't the best thing ever, as it was probably what caused his social issues. It was just... he felt safer, more sane in there, like Northvale was all some fucked-up dream. Which he was still kind of hoping it was.
He couldn't help but wince at the word Leprechaun. It wasn't that it was hurtful in any way, just so, awfully... what was the word. Cheesey? Cliched? Either way, he still hated it. It was what everyone called him, and each time he heard someone say it, it gave him a horrible, spine-shuddering "nooo" feeling. Yup, it was just that corny. Just because he was Irish, too! That was hardly fair. Even if Leprechauns were traditionally Irish, that didn't automatically mean he was one, did it? If it did, then Felix just disn't want to live on this planet anymore. Then again, there were a lot of things that made Felix hate the world. But stupid people (with working voiceboxes) were by far the worst thing ever.
His eyes narrowed slightly, not hostile, but not exactly happy either. "S' Felix," he said in response to the boy. His voice, although still polite, had the slightest hard edge to it that he couldn't seem to help. "Felix O'Callaghan." He didn't bother to ask the guy for his name because, well, there was a kind of harshness about him that told Felix he wasn't exactly the friendliest person alive. Felix wasn't being wimpy about that; no, he just didn't fancy seeming like he was trying too hard. That wasn't the way that this conversation would work.

The leprechaun looked kind of pissed off now. Oh, that had been because Noah had ended up calling him a leprechaun out loud. He didn't seem to approve of the name. ...So, he was actually named Felix O'Callaghan - the leprechaun. Noah wasn't going to say that out loud. He didn't think it would be wise to wind up the faerie anymore.
"I'm Noah." the vampire replied, not sure of what else he was supposed to say that wasn't leprechaun-related or rude in any way. Besides, that was the obvious thing to reply with since he'd just learned Felix's name. His amusement was evident, made most clear by the smirk on his pale face as well as the tone to his voice. Noah knew he shouldn't find the leprechaun amusing but it couldn't be helped.

It was sort of maybe a little bit... horrible of Felix to let himself get so quickly irked by one single word. Normally, things like names didn't bother him so easily. He didn't know what it was; maybe just some of the belated teen angst that his father had told him he was entitled to? No, Felix couldn't pull off angsty. The last time he'd gotten even close, he'd ended up feeling guilty for being "such a prick" for about a week afterwards. No matter how much he hated it, the fourth year just wasn't that kind of person. That kind of personality matched his social standing better, but no, he had to be friendly and soft and just... blah, didn't he?
He hadn't really been expecting a reply after he'd told the guy - Noah - his name. But he'd got one, which had surprised him a little. But he could... work with that? Yeah, to some extent. "Noah." he confirmed lazily, absent-mindedly fumbling to turn another page in his book, having completely forgotten how annoying it was. Honestly, he was book-smart, but he had next to no common sense. He sighed, giving up, and slammed the book closed with a loud slap (which took a considerable amount of effort, mind you).
Once again, he whirled around to face the other boy with another nod. "I s'pose it could've been a little nicer to meet yah, but that don't matter." He chuckled slightly, shaking his head. Felix didn't really care about first impressions. They weren't everything - there was so much more to a person than what there seemed to be on face value. So why judge someone that way? Especially if it was the first time you'd ever met them; it was disrespectful and unfair. Two things which Felix hated more than pretty much anything.
He shuffled slightly on the leaf he was perched on, folding his slender legs into a more comfortable position. Come to think of it, what was Noah, anyway? Being too polite to ask outright, he merely said "D'you go to the academy, or what? Dun' think I've seen you around before." And, knowing Felix, he probably would have remembered seeing this student roam the Academy's halls. Unless he was the type, as the faerie was himself, to just stay out of the way. Probably was. But, no, that wasn't relevant right now.

Noah was confused about how Felix could be so nice. People like that had always confused him and made him feel kind of envious towards them. How come he couldn't act like that around people? When he tried, Noah felt as if the whole thing were pointless. "Yeah, I guess." the ghost of a smile crossed his lips for a moment. He couldn't disagree with that. If Noah had suddenly, magically been in a fantastic mood then their first meeting probably would've been far more pleasant.
He was a little embarrassed by the leprechaun's next question but Noah hoped that he didn't let it show. "I do, but I... keep to myself." Noah tried not to sound as annoyed as he was feeling when he answered Felix. He didn't have the right to be irritated at not being noticed though, he knew that. The vampire didn't like drawing attention to himself for any reason and didn't exactly have many friends to hang around with so it was no surprise that he hadn't been seen around.

It was good to see a smile, albeit an almost unnoticeable one, flit across the vampire's face for a second. It made Felix just that little bit happier, his smile just the tiniest bit wider. He pretty much lived to make people happy. More often than not, his father. But that was interchangeable depending who was feeling down, or who was just mopey in general. Although he rarely talked to people as spontaneously as he was doing now, it was still good to see that he'd made someone happier, even if it was just by a tiny bit. Or even a smile, not even necessarily happier. Smiles were just... brighter. Better. More pleasant. And, no matter what a person's natural disposition was, that was something that couldn't be denied.
He had a feeling that Noah was the type to just stay out of everyone's way. If it wasn't obvious from the way he acted, then it was given away by the fact that things were kind of awkward between the pair, anyway. It wasn't that Felix lacked social skills, he just didn't like to use them. He wasn't quite sure about Noah, but then, did he really need to be? "You and me both," the fae said simply. looking down at his feet and swinging his legs a little bit for want of something better to do. It'd gotten to that point in the conversation, now, where Felix wasn't really sure what was going to go on.
And then he remembered that, duh, he was sat on the spine of a book, about three inches tall. It would probably be more polite if he were... bigger. Even if he wasn't that tall in his ordinary state. it would be much better (probably) if he didn't have to look up so much, and to speak so loudly, since his vocal chords were only small. "Uh... Maybe I should... y'know..." he said, making a wide, circular, flailing motion in the air which somehow implied that he was going to get bigger. He didn't mean for it to look as stupid as it probably did, but that didn't matter, did it?
He hopped carefully from where he was perched, using his wings to slow down his fall. Within a matter of moments of touching the ground, he was his normal height. Which, come on, wasn't that much of a difference. Five foot seven? Psch, that was nothing. But, still, it was better. By a little, at least. "There." he said, dusting off his hands and picking the book up from off of the ground. "That's better." Well, not really. But as if that mattered. He felt like he could actually deal with conversation now that he didn't have to shout or look up so much.
